alright! this is john kohler with discountjuicers.com.today we have another exciting episode for you and where i’m coming at you today isthe 2014 woodstock food festival here in upstate new york. the upstate food festival this yearis a two-week event; next year’s going to be a one-week event, celebrating eating fruitsand vegetables. so it’s all about fruits and vegetables you’re living on or primarilyfruit- and vegetable-based diet for the whole time of year, so this is great for detox orgreat for athletic performance or great to just for your health. you might want to check them out at woodstockfoodfestival.comfor future events. but why i’m here today is to share with you guys the different equipmentthat they use behind the scenes in the kitchen

to make the food for the nearly 500 peoplethat are in attendance this week. and so the machines we got very quickly at the vitamixblender, the omega vmj 330 juicer, the omega vrt 350 juicer, the omega 8006 nutrition center, and finally, the green star elite. so the chef in the back of the house uses these veryblenders to create all different recipes and delicious food, and she uses a particularjuicer for a particular task. for example, she loves the blender. she’s constantly using the blender, butfor making a juice she might pick one of these juicers, and she’ll pick the juicer that’sgoing to best process the produce she’s choosing at that time. so what i’m goingto do next is i’m going to give a talk at

the woodstock food festival explaining thedifferences between blending and juicing and why you may never want to blend again, andyou’re going to see in the demonstration and hear from the audience that’s in attendanceif they like watermelon that was blended, juiced at a high speed, or juiced at a lowspeed using one of these juicers over here. in addition you’re going to learn aboutnutrition degradation that can occur when using a blender and why there’s one rawfood educator out there saying that if you blend stuff you use 90 percent of the nutrition.true, not true? another things you’re going to learn about is why one of these juicersmaybe be better or worse for you depending on what you want to juice because everyonedoes have different needs. so without further

ado, let’s get into the talk. john: alright, hello everybody, i’ll bespeaking about juicers and blenders and their relationship in a raw food diet, or just ahealthy diet in general. i’m going to explain first the differences between the blendersand the juicers and why you may want to use one instead of the others, as well as i’mgoing to give you a demonstration of why you might want to use one instead of the others.and there’s definitely pros and cons to each; some of the pioneers here might noteven advocate juicing because it removes the fiber and if you’re drinking juice, technicallythat’s a processed food. so i would ask you to check in with whereyou’re at and see if that’s something

good, or not good, for you. in my belief,i believe juicing is an excellent way to improve your fruit and vegetable consumption and ifyou don’t remember anything else from this whole event, it’s your fruit and vegetableconsumption that are the most important thing. it doesn’t matter if the food’s raw ornot, but we want to be eating fresh fruits and fresh vegetables in their whole, raw stateor as close to that as possible. so that’s why we believe the juicers and the blendersare very beneficial, especially for people and your friends who aren’t even in thislifestyle. this is a very easy way to get in more fruits and vegetables in their diet.primarily i like to blend up my fruits and i like to juice my vegetables, but sometimesi’ll be juicing my fruits and blending up

my vegetables. there’s pros and cons to each and i’lldo them any way i can get more fruits and vegetables in me and i’ll be healthier becauseof it. so with that, let’s go ahead. once again i said the blenders keep all the fiberand the juicers remove it, so we’re talking about the blenders, once again, and the juicers, there’s pros and cons to each. some people might say, “blenders are the best becausethey always keep the fiber” and it’s totally true that we need the fiber in our diet butin my opinion, i eat plenty of fresh fruits in their whole natural state and fresh vegetablesthat have plenty of fiber so i’m getting fiber running through me. so the blender willkeep all the fiber in there but what’s often

not talked about is what the blender doesdo to the food that you’re putting in there. the vitamix, with two plus horsepower, itruns at 27,000 revolutions per minute, which is very, very fast. some of the juicers actuallyrun a lot slower. for example, this one, the omega vmj runs at about 11,000 rpms, whichis about half the speed though it is still quite fast. and going over to this side, thisis the omega vrt juicer, runs at about 80 rpms. the omega 8600 runs at 80 rpms. thegreen star elite runs at about 125 rpms, and there’s juicers that run as low as 40 rpmsnow, so that’s multitudes slower than the vitamix. what people don’t realize whenthey’re saying, “oh yeah, blending’s the best way to keep the fiber,” they don’trealize what’s happening in the blender

is when you blend, you vortex and the bladeis spinning around very fast, it’s pulling liquid down straight into the vortex. and with that vortex it’s pulling down air.and when it pulls down the air, that air is oxidizing the food at a very high and rapidrate. so much so that there’s some people in the raw foods movement, one of them isnamed dr. bryan clement, he claims that 90 percent of nutrition is lost when you blendthings. so he just flat out doesn’t recommend blending things. that doesn’t mean you shouldn’tever blend things because according to dr. clement you lose 90 percent of everythingin there. i don’t know if i would believe that it’s 90 percent of everything of whateveryou’re blending that’s lost. yes, i would

agree that it definitely oxidizes more thanstuff in the juicer, but i wouldn’t believe it’s 90 percent, but the fast of the matteris the blender does oxidize things more. and we see this. i want to do a demonstrationreally quick for you guys that i’ve never done before. we’re going to take one ofthe watermelons here, and while i don’t necessarily recommend juicing your fruits, oftentimes i have so many fresh fruits available to me that they start going bad. and i wouldrather get the nutrition out of them and into me instead of my compost pile so to eat morethan just one cantaloupe or two cantaloupes for breakfast. you’re piling on two or threecantaloupes simply by juicing them, by removing all the fiber, removing the pulp and keepingthe liquid and nutrition, the phytochemicals

and phytonutrients in there. so that’s wheni juice my fruits, when i have a mass abundance of fruits that i just can’t eat. so we’regoing to go ahead and take this watermelon and try to cut it in half and then we’regoing, that’s probably good, we’re going to cut it in half and what we’re going todo is take the watermelon and i’m going to take off all the rind. i do recommend juicing the rind on the watermelon;the rind is actually where the chlorophyll is, where the nutrition is. this happens tobe not an organic watermelon so in that case, i don’t like to juice the rind but if igrew it in my garden i would totally juice the rind. now the rind will also make thewatermelon juice not quite as sweet. so if

you’re worried about getting a sugar hit,too much sugar, the rind will mellows it out. i personally like the sweetness of the watermelon.so you may see people make watermelon juice like this; they’ll literally call it a watermelonjuice by putting the watermelon chunks into the blender. what i’m going to do is startthe blender off. hopefully we can get this to go down. i need a tamper here. maybe i’ll cut it. alright, so that’show i wanted to get it for you guys, so i want you guys to see this level. so if you’re,say for example, making a green smoothie, you’re going to fill it up with water, greens, and bananas, whatever else, and you’re going to start at a certain level, right? so weall know where you’re starting. what we’re

going to do is run this blender on high toblend it up. now where are we at now? is it higher than when we started? did we just createwatermelon juice out of thin air? what happened? sucked air in, added the air in, so now, whenyou drink this, it’s aerated so it may cause extra gas, because you’re drinking in airso you may have some burping, but also this air also causes rapid oxidation to the watermelonin there. so this is why i don’t necessarily recommendblending because it does oxidate so much. now, what’s better, drinking a coca colaor oxidating your watermelon? you guys don’t have to think about that but what’s betterthan blending? well it might just be good just to eat the watermelon without doing anythingbecause guess what, our teeth, it crushes

things up and it works at a very low rpm.hopefully you’re chewing all your food up into a mush because we have teeth to createmush or baby food in our mouths; that’s why we give babies baby food because theydon’t have the teeth to do this. in some cases people might have dentures or mightnot have good teeth, they don’t want to chew so much. that’s when the blender couldcome in. next i want to show you guys this very watermelon-yjuices and two different juices to show you the difference. so once again i’m goingto go ahead and cut off all the green skin with a fork and if i could get a volunteer,i need a volunteer to help me pour out the sample cups. you guys can sample the differencesbetween these watermelon juices because you

guys are going to get to sample the one that’saerated and the one that’s not aerated and created with the different juices and howthey taste a little bit different. so next we’re going to use the omega vmj, whichruns at like 11,000 rpms. as you can see it’s like adding a lot of air, it’s adding alot of foam and froth. it’s even blowing out the juice a little bit. but it’s niceand fat. so this is why many of the high-speed juicersthat are on the market now, like the breville or the jack lalanne or other juicers thatyou buy at the department store, they’re all these low-quality high-speed juicers inmy opinion. but once again, if you’re not going to make juice that takes 20 minutesand this thing lets you make it in three,

and otherwise you’re going to drink a coffee, tea, or coke, this is way better. and look, we’re already done juicing that melon. that’salmost quicker than the blender there. alright so then we can try this one. look at that, look at the consistency. it’s really aerated. you’re drinking more oxygen. so the nextthing is, we’re going to once again take another quarter of this melon and we’regoing to juice it in the omega vrt. now this is style machine i like the most because itoxidizes the least, so you’re going to get the most nutrition in the juice and it’salso the quietest, for people that are sensitive to noise. and you using your vitamix or yourhigh speed juicer every day without hearing prevention it may cause hearing issues becausethey are actually quite loud.

and i have people that are noise-sensitivepeople, actually a lady emailed me like, “john, what’s the quietest juicer because you’renever covered that before.” so i told her it’s the omega vsj 843, a brand new modelthat runs at 40 rpms, super quiet and actually it’s really my favorite juicer out therefor juicing most things. so now we’re going to go out there and put this guy in. thisguy you can barely hear running. it just runs nice and easily. it gently and quietly reallysqueezes out the juice, the pulp comes out this side, the juice runs out this side. andlook at how clear that juice is. it’s not oxidated, not oxygenated, you’re gettingall the full levels of lycopene and all the vitamins that’s supposed to be in the juice.it’s in there.

so one again with the blender we kept thefiber; you’re going to taste that as that comes around and then these machines separateout the fiber. this machine is nice because you can see it coming out. the fiber’s hereand it’s actually still quite wet and runny. many raw foodies have videos out there onyoutube saying oh yeah this how you juice watermelons in vitamix. so as you guys sawin this juicer, the juice is still kinda pinkish, cloudy and oxygen-y. this one’s a lot moredark, rich, red. this one’s less oxygenated and has more nutrition in here and it’svery important for people who can’t drink their juice right after they make it. i alwaysencourage people to drink the juice right after they make it for the highest nutrition, many people can’t do this because they don’t

work at home like i do or whatnot. they taketheir juice to work. so it’s very important if you’re takingyour juice to work to use the minimal oxidation when you extract the juice so that there’smore nutrition in it later in the day. the juicers or the blenders that make it at highspeed oxidate it more then it breaks down faster. with this style of machine or theslow juicers, any of the ones on this side of the table, the nutrients will last longer.they have studies that show this. that goes to show you the simple difference betweenthe blenders and the juicers and specifically the high-speed juicers and the low speed juicers.one of the tests i’m not doing today, maybe i should do that with the last watermelonhere, is pretty cool. we’ll have this ready

and one of the tests that they use to letthe juices sit out and you could see the juice separation over time. so who likes the vitamix one the best? nobody.who liked this one the best? now did everybody get the juice out of this one yet? wow, everybodythat had the juice out of the vrt liked this one the best so you could taste the difference.so you want to taste the vitality right? some people are like breville juicer or nothing.the breville juicer, like this one right? i really want to encourage you to get theslow juicer because it keeps the nutrition higher and it tastes better. there’s morenutrition in it and i’m not eating it for any other reason than to get nutrition inmy body. so what we’re going to do is let

these sit now. this was made with the omegavrt, and this was made in the high speed and you will see the difference in just a littlebit in how they look. i’m going to go ahead and crate out this into containers so youcan see better. so this is the close up on the two differentjuicers. you can dramatically see the color difference; this is nice and dark and thisis light. and you guys can taste it. did everybody get a chance to taste the low speed juice?in any case, that was the simple demonstration of the watermelon and the oxidation that occurredin the blender so it’s always best to process your food at the lowest rpm possible. youknow, we’re not even done because some people like to blend up everything. you can use certainjuicers as pseudo-blenders to mush up everything

so this model here, the omega 8006 actuallyhas a little attachment here that you could pull out. this happened to be the juicing screen — ithas holes in it — but they have what’s called a blank plate that has a solid placeso that whatever you put in here it just mushes up at low rpm. now it’s not going to getit as smooth and as creamy as the blender would, but it’s going to mash up fairlywell, so i have a video entitled “making a ground salad” basically grinding thingsup into a smaller particle size, and in the process it does release a lot of juice. onceagain, the reason why i did this was because i was traveling once and i didn’t feel likeeating my super-large salad that night and

i didn’t want to chew as much so by runningit through the juicer at low rpm i minimally damaged the nutrition in the food and alsoi’ve broken it down and created a different texture, which i really like playing withtexture in my diet. you know the blender makes one texture, thatjuicer makes one texture, and the aeration and the smoothness and how it tastes. so that’swhy i like to use this in that way in some cases, just to grind up the food at low rpmif that’s what you want to do. one time i even made a salad dressing, because normallyi make a salad dressing in the blender. i might use some macadamia nuts and some orangejuice, one of my favorite salad dressings, but i didn’t have a blender with me fora raw food chef competition i entered once.

you actually had to use the juicer to putboth items in and get them to mix up and crush everything down to make a dressing and itworked alright. it took a lot of work and it was a pain inthe butt to clean, and i like to always recommend to use the right tool for the right job, sothat’s what i want to get into next because we have a whole different selection of juicershere. each one has their specifics pros and cons. one of the pros of high-speed juicersis, i showed you one of the cons before which is it oxygenates the juice and doesn’t tasteas good, but the low-speed juicers, these are all low-speed juicers, they each operatea little differently. this is called a vertical single auger machine. this is actually lastyear’s mode;, it’s an older model.

it basically has an auger in there, you putthe produce in there, an edge comes around and it chops it up and it compresses the spacewhere the produce is and presses it smaller and smaller and it’s crushed. the juiceis squeezed out through the screen and it comes out this side and the pulp comes outthat side, and this is called the vertical auger. in general the vertical auger juicerslike this style, and this is the omega vrt although the omega’s latest model is theomega vsj 340, it’s much superior to this in my opinion. these are pretty much good for all-aroundjuicers so in my opinion, this would take the place of the high-speed centrifugal juicersif you’re just going to get one machine.

it’ll juice green, it’ll juice wheatgrass,it’ll juice carrots, it’ll juice fruits, and it all does them fairly well. but if yousay, “john, i know that juicing leafy greens are really important and i don't usually eatenough leafy greens in my diet. i just want to focus on leafy greens.” then you mightnot want to get this because this is a good all-around juicer, if you want to juice alittle bit of everything and you don’t know exactly what you want to juice. and that’swhere the next model comes in. this is the omega 8006, and this is a horizontal singleauger machine. so this works similar to the vertical one, but instead of the auger goingup and down and taking less space on your countertop, the auger’s going horizontally, and this is at once again at an 80 rpm.

you put something in there, it chops off apiece, and it works off in this direction and as it goes down it presses it and pressesit and squeezes the juice out and the juices comes out the bottom and the pulp comes outthe front of the machine. so this style of machine tends to work really well on the leafygreen vegetables. like this one does wheatgrass, far more superior to this one, and it alsodoes a much better job on herbs, and if you want to juice herbs or medicinal herbs peopleare now juicing for a lot of benefits, and leafy greens, it just really gets a high yieldon this. now this is last year’s model of the horizontalsingle auger machine. the brand new one’s the omega nc 400, and that’s the one i recommendnow if you guys wanted to get a horizontal

single auger machine that has a wider feedchute. it gets a 25 percent higher yield on my test on leafy greens than this one. thisone is still superior. another benefit of this machine over this machine is that thismachine is easier to clean and takes about half the time. i talk fast and i clean fastand this one takes me about a minute and a half to clean. this one takes me about threeminutes to clean, so i might take you three minutes and five minutes or three minutesand six minutes if you’re not quite as efficient and move very quickly. and finally we haveover here we have the green star elite juicer. this one works a lot different. this one’sstill a low-speed machine but this one does not have a single plastic auger like the othermachines. what this has inside here, it actually

has two gears, so this is kind of like theguys inside your transmission in your car, with the two metal gears that you put theproduce in and they crush and squeeze the juice and this is in several distinct sections.so first they have the crushing section here with these specialized gears. then as thepulp moves down, they have the mixing section, which is like these rounded plastic gearshere and finally this end part, where the plastic gets not quite as smooth. that’sthe squeezing section, that finally squeezes out all the juice. it’s literally a three-stagejuicer. this most resembles the norwalk juicer. the norwalk, you put the produce through,it grinds it up in this section, then this section’s the pressing stage so if you needto get the juicer with the highest-quality

juice, that makes the highest-quality handsdown that i’ve seen testing on in my opinion is the green star elite juicer. now this juicer, while that does sound like oh yeah i’m going to get the highest-quality juicer, once againevery juicer has its pros and cons. if you’re a lady, you probably own more than one pairof shoes. you probably have twelve pairs of shoes, maybe fifteen. one for running, onefor the beach, one for a wedding, one for jogging. and if you’re a guy, i met a guyhere earlier that’s into fishing, you know, sport fishing, and i asked him, “how manyrods and bait things or whatever do you have?” and he has a bunch because if he’s goingto do bass he gets the long one and if it’s trout it’s the smaller one and he alwayshas to use a different kind of lure, right?

so me and juicers are like that. i’ve gotmultiple juicers and depending on what i’m juicing i’m going to grab the juicer offmy shelf of twenty juicers to juice the thing i'm juicing at that time. like if i’m juicingcactus fruit, i would never use this one, i would never use this one, i would neveruse that one. i would never use a blender. i would always use this one. but if i’mjuicing wheatgrass, like screw everything else, i use this one. so if you’re goingto buy one juicer, it’s very important to make the proper decision and get the one that’sbest going to meet your needs. like “john, i’m only going to use wheatgrass 100 percentof the time and virtually no fruit,” then in my opinion it would be this. if you say,“john, i want to get the juicer with the

highest level of nutrition in the juice thatlasts the longest so i can store it for three days because i can only juice once every threedays because i’m in my truck driving on the road,” then i would say go for thisone. there’s so many pros and cons that’s whyi’ve made more than 350 videos on youtube comparing this one to this one, and this oneto this one, so you guys can see the yield difference but also learn what i talk aboutthe difference between them because my job, i’m kind of like that shoe salesman when i was a kid,i don’t think we have them anymore, but when i was a kid we would go into the shoestore and they would measure your foot. the shoe guy would put on the thing and presson your toe and tell you to walk around and

make sure you got fit with the right shoe.i’m trying to fit you guys with the right juicer so you guys get the right juicer thefirst time around and you’re happy with it and can start using it every day to includemore fruits and vegetables in your every day life, if that’s what you desire, so youcan get healthier. so some of the cons about the green star eliteis that there’s a bunch of parts on here to clean, and the screen is the hardest partto clean on any juicer, that’s how i found it in the kitchen. they didn’t clean itthoroughly enough and so the screen is definitely difficult to clean. you get a special brushto clean it out and it takes long, that’s why it’s easier to have the least amountof screen you need to clean. this probably

has more screen area than that, but the vrthas the most, but i find on the vrt that the way the screen is designed, it’s easierto clean and get the stuff out than this, this has very small holes. also there’s a number of numerous partson here that you have clean and take apart in addition on this machine, very specificallywhen you’re juicing in this area, it gets flooded and crudded with juice, so you haveto spray it down and clean it thoroughly if you want it clean after every use. so that’sone of the negatives. and the price is a negative. i think this is the most expensive machineon the table, i think followed by the vitamix the next most expensive, and then this machine, and then this machine, and then the vmj that

we had to remove is the least expensive onthe table. and another thing i like to talk about is warranties. the warranties vary for all the differentmachines; i want to encourage you guys to get a machine with a nice long warranty becausea warranty is insurance that you’re going to have a juicer for years to come. many ofthe inexpensive juicers you might buy at the department store, and even so the high-endjuicers sold at william sonoma have short 90 day, one-year, or like two-year warranties.the machines on this table are serious juicers, like the omega 8006, that has a 15-year warranty. so for the next 15 years they’re going toguarantee a juicer. this guy here has a 12-year

warranty, which is super long. and then theomega vrt has a 10-year warranty. so i mean the manufacturers, i hold them to their warranties, and the brands that i choose to offer, they havegood warranty support. and if you purchase a juicer from me and you have problems withit, you just got to let me know what’s going on and i’ll be the liaison to the manufacturerto make sure they take care of you if they’re not. but all the companies that i work with, they’ve always taken care of my customers, otherwise i wouldn't be selling their stuffbecause it’s very important to me, that besides selling juicers, that you’re goingto be able to use it for a long time. the way that i got into raw foods, many peopledon’t know this, but i saw a juice man infomercial

on tv back in the 1990s when i got out ofthe hospital with spinal meningitis that i learned i had a complement immune deficiency, which is a chronically weak immune system, and i knew i needed to build up my immunesystem some way and i had no idea how i was going to do that, but i saw an infomercialon tv, jay cortes the juice man, and all i needed to hear in that infomercial was youcould lose weight, have more energy, and he said, “and build your immune system.” and i thought oh, i need to build up my immunesystem that’s weak, because i was diagnosed with this weak immune system, so i startedjuicing, and that was my foot in the door with raw foods. i know i’ve changed manypeople’s lives with my juicing videos, because

they get excited about juicing and then theystarted doing it, and once they start doing it, then they feel the results and they wantto go further and take the next step, whether that means eating a raw foods diet, growingtheir own high-quality produce, whatever it is. and then juicing is a good standby. andeven if you’re not into raw foods, you can get a juicer as a gift for people at christmastime.it’s one of the biggest gifts you can give them. you don’t have to tell them to use it butif you give it to them they have the option of using it to get healthier and you can givethem the juicer and the dvd movie titled, “fat, sick, and nearly dead,” which manyof you guys may have seen because that will

really get the motivated if they’re in thespace to change because they’re not feeling good. next i want to juice some greens becausei don’t think anybody here’s had any greens lately. so what we’re going to juice todayis, we’ve got some romaine hearts, so i really like to juice romaine hearts; they’rereally simple, quick, and easy to juice, and this is a straight up green juice. i’m notadding any fruit and i would normally juice something like this, romaine hearts for anice leafy green milk flavor. we got some cucumbers, we got some celery, and we got some collard greens here and i think the juicers we’re going to be usingtoday, if we can do it, are these two machines if we can pour out the watermelon juices here.the cool thing about both these machines is

they’re relatively quiet, and i like thaton the omega 8006, there’s no cutting of the produce required. so for example if youwant to make green juice this machine is really cool because you can put a whole piece ofcelery in there and it’s just going to juice right up. we’ve got the juice coming outthe bottom and the pulp coming out the front. now we want to use the same piece of celeryin the omega vrt you could just put it down there but you’re asking for problems becausethe way this machine works it doesn’t break up all the celery strands like this machinedoes. and if you get celery strands that get stuck in your teeth, it will also get stuckin this juicer here as it comes up and it’ll clog it up, and then it’ll make this machineperform horribly to the point that you’ll

say, “john, this machine sucks, it makessmoothies with a bit of juice.” and i'm like what’s up, and what i determine isthat you have to take the celery and you have to cut it into 8-inch pieces, like you’dhave to dice this into small pieces so that it doesn’t clog up. that’s the deal with that style of juicer;once again every juicer has its pros and cons. you don’t to deal with clogs don’t getthis juicer. and i try to show this in my videos and let people make the choice of whatthey want to do. i personally don’t mind cutting the celery up because the other thingthat you don’t realize is that now that i’ve got this cut-up celery, all i got todo is drop it in there. once i drop it in

there, check it out, it’s auto-feeding,it just sucks it in there. on this one right, if i let it sit there, it kind of auto feedsbut it’s going to there forever and every piece of produce i juice i got to sit thereand take time and waste and push in. i’d rather cut it all up, have it going, lookat that i’m juicing with two juicers at once. i just like pre-cutting stuff and lettingthe juicer deal with it. once again on the celery, i mean the cucumber, we can’t putthat in there but on this one, check it out, just drop it in there, you could see it getsucked in. on this one next door we have to cut it in half and put it in there and itkind of sucks in but it just sits there. you

have to push it. i’m not into pushing stuffinto juicers. next thing we’ll juice, we’re going to juice this romaine here if i cancut off the bottom, we’re going to chop this in half. i always like cutting it up.we could put this in whole…this does have some fiber so we optimally we probably shouldchop it up for best results, but in this one we could easily put it in whole as long asit fits in, which it looks like it will. chopping stuff up doesn’t take a lot oftime, just make sure you’re not cutting your fingers off. so i like how i can justdrop that stuff in there, suck it in, and juice it on up. the other thing i want totalk about that’s important is when feeding the juicers to not feed things in and pushthings in too quickly because that’ll mess

it up. one of the things i’m not going withthe omega vrt is i’m not pushing it in because if i'm using the pusher, i’m pushing thingsin extra into the juicer when it may not be ready for it. it’s like if you’re chewingyour food up and you have a big bite of salad in there and you’re done not chewing andswallowing and you try shoving another mouthful in there, it’s not going to fit. it’s going to mess you up and it does thesame to the juicers; if you try to feed the juicers too quickly, it can cause extra foam, extra frothing, and extra clogging. alright, so let’s see what haven’t we juiced already.we haven’t juiced the collard leaves. so the collard leaves in the omega 8006 are wonderfulbecause we’re just going to take two collard

leaves and roll them up like a big cigar forthose of you guys that went to high school once, maybe like a big doobie. we’re goingto go ahead and put them in. it just goes in really easily and juices right up. if youlook at this pulp, this pulp on the green is super dry. once again though, on the omega vrt, we couldput it in there but once again, this has nice fibrous long strings right here that’llget stuck in the juicer so once again we’re going to take it and cut it into 8-inch piecesvery quickly and easily. and now we’re going to go ahead and dump it in. and once againthis is fairly auto-feeding as well, so i like that a lot. now another thing i haveto mention that’s very important when using

the juicer is to not do things haphazardly, which i have been doing today because i’m doing a demo. normally what i would do istake all the produce and free cut it. so if i’m using the vrt, i take the collardgreens, the celery, and the romaine and basically cut it up and have little piles on my cuttingboard. pile of romaine, pile of celery, and a pile of the collard leaves, and then thecucumbers i try just cutting in half. and then i take a hand each of the collard leaves, the romaine and put that in the machine. i follow that with the cucumber, which is thesoftest item, then i follow that with the celery. these machines, all the differentslow juicers, they all required fibrous material to push the pulp out.

if you’re giving it something like softmushy apples, none of the slow juicers in general work very well. they really need somehard fibrous material. pears are one of the most excellent things to have to help pushforward the fiber. celery’s fairly good if you just chop it up properly. let’s goahead and put some more celery in there. does anybody have any questions on all the differentjuicers while i finish making this green juice for you guys? audience: [indiscernible] john: do i recommend the new version of thisone? so the new version of the omega 8006 is the omega nc800 in the us. if you livein europe it would be the omega sana juicer,

and i do recommend that one if you want tojuice mostly leafy greens. that’s the best juicer for leafy greens and wheatgrass thati’ve tested. if you want to juice a lot of fruit, then i would definitely not recommendthis and once again, every machine has its pros and cons. i like different juicers fordifferent reasons. john: the main difference between these two?so the main difference between these two is one’s horizontal and one vertical. one takesless counter space, one takes more counter space. one, like i showed you, you have topush each item of produce in. this one’s more auto-feeding. this one you need to pre-cutthe produce before you put it in so it gets sucked in on its own whereas this one’sgoing to take a little bit of time. this one

is actually easier to clean, this one’sa little more difficult to clean. this one, if you want to make more volume of juice, you’re going to be done quicker in general than this one, overall it just works a littlebit quicker. the price, in general, the vertical juicers cost more than the auger juicers. this one handles fruits better, like if youwant to juice fruits by themselves, this one makes an amazing cactus fruit juice. i thinkeverybody should be juicing cactus fruit. how many people in here have used cactus fruitbefore? a handful of you. you got to start watching my videos. but cactus fruit juiceis amazing, if you’ve drank it you know how good it is. the one nutrient you needthe most is the nutrient you’re not getting,

so that’s why i like to eat a diversityof foods in my diet — all kinds of fruits and vegetables you can eat raw. and most peoplehaven’t eaten cactus fruit. and when you’ve eaten the cactus fruit juice, it’s so sweet, but the problem is with this juicer, it will simply not do it effectively. this juicer does it quite well. it’s reallytough because everybody says, “john, what’s the juicer to buy?” and i’m like i don’tknow, what do you want to juice? i’m just going to talk to each person individuallyto find out what they want to juice, determine what they want to juice, and find the criteriathat are important. maybe they don’t care if the juicer has a one-year warranty. tome that’s super important. if a juicer breaks

after on year and that’s a $300 juicer, you got to buy another one, but if you have a 15-year warranty and it breaks in year 14,you’re covered. you won’t have to spend another $400 orwhatever. and some people want a juicer that’s easy to clean, some people want a juicer that’squiet, some people want to juice different foods and it always just depends so it’shard for me to say. i like my juicers but in general i will tell you, having 20 juicersat home in my house, i use about three of them, four of them at most, and the ones iuse the most are the omega nc800, which is the new version of this. i use the omega vsj843, which is the new version of this one. i also use the slow star juicer, which isa different brand of this machine that actually

has homogenizing, which we did not talk aboutmuch. and i also use the kuvings whole slow juicer, as well as my orange press juicer.everybody will have their own favorite personal juicer. i have my favorite, based on whati’m juicing on that day. man: what’s the last one that you mentioned?the orange press? john: it’s the orange press, or actuallyit’s called the olympus citrus press. i oftentimes, like you guys have had unlimitedorange juice here, i’ll usually have oranges or something to juice if i'm super late runningout the door and i want something to eat and i can’t get one of these, i can make juicein this machine. i made 32 ounces of juice before a flight i had last week in like tenminutes and be out the there; i didn’t clean

up, my roommate did. i had to peel my cactusfruit, juice it, and i was out. thirty-two ounces of juice in the juicer. all cactusfruit. and i have a video from start to finish withthis machine. i get a pitcher of juicer this big under 15 minutes including the cleanup.people make excuses like, “i don’t have enough time to juice.” if you want to dosomething bad enough, you will make the time. if your husband or wife is important to you,you will make the time to spend with them. and you get faster. as you guys see, i'm talkingand chopping and juicing. i mean this is what i do. i juice every day and it’s not a joke.i think it’s sad that many companies sell juicers and they don’t know a lot aboutthem and they might not even use them because

they could be selling [indiscernible] forall they care. i’m selling juicers because i want to empower people to create positivechange in their life and become healthier because i’m simply glad to be alive todaybecause i was given a second chance. man: you’re doing it, you’re doing it! john: alright, so are there any other questionsfor me here while i finish up making this? yes. woman: i get there’s that plastic plug inside, you know what i’m talking about? john: right, in the bottom. woman: do you know if it closes while you’rejuicing, i mean what’s the purpose of that?

john: the plastic plug on the bottom that’syellow? the little flap? woman: and you can push it in? john: right, sure. so she’s talking aboutin this machine, let’s go ahead and turn this off really quick. in this machine there’sthis little plastic plug right there and this little plastic plug here, the job of thisplug is to keep the produce in the machine after it breaks down and to extract the mostjuice, because if we left this plug out it would send out more pulp that was more wet,and you would be sacrificing some of the juice actually. so always when using the machineyou want to put this plug in to put backpressure on the pulp. the only time when you’re goingto remove it is for cleaning. you’re going

to want to keep this in all the time and justremove it for cleaning. man: does that act as the thing on the endon the green star? john: right, exactly. so on this machine downthere is a little spring tensioner that puts pressure on the pulp that doesn’t let itout until it’s dry. and that one’s automatic. this one is manual so in some cases when you’rejuicing and it’s screwed in all the way in and you start backing up and stuff startscoming out the feed chut, it’s like this is not doing its job. you need to unscrewthat to let some of the pulp come out. and it’s the same on this machine here. thismachine here, in the back here and in the screen here has a little plastic or siliconepiece to put some back pressure in there.

now that the newer model of this is actuallyan adjustable end cap so you determine the backpressure, so that allows you to get alittle bit more juice, higher yields from my testing. but if you don’t want to deal with extraparts, some of these extra parts that detach here go down people’s garbage disposalsand you lose it and all this kind of stuff. this is just easy to use. but that’s anotherthing when you’re selecting a juicer. everybody could ride a tricycle, hopefully, right, becauseit has three wheels, you get on it and pedal. you’re not going to fall over. most peoplehere have ridden a bicycle, but you’ve got to learn to balance yourself. and then a unicycle, that’s super difficult. you’ve really

got to balance it. some juicers are more liketricycles, like the juicer here. that’s like a tricycle. you just put stuff in, and it’s going tojuice for the most part. leaves, and that kind of stuff, that’s not really juicingthat well. this one’s more like a tricycle. this one’s more like a bicycle. this guy,a little bit more like a unicycle because there’s a secret learning curve to get toknow how to use it right when you get it but when you start to use it some and use it forabout a month, you’ll get the hang of it and learn it just like your boyfriend or girlfriendor husband or wife, they have peculiarities about them and you get to know them and ohyeah, drew likes his eggs over easy. his juice

with no kale. woman: [indiscernible] john: so the question is why did i not likejuicing fruits with the horizontal juicer? the main reason i don’t like juicing fruitswith a horizontal juicer is simply because they don’t do it well. i’m all about efficiencywhenever possible in most things in my life, and this machine is just not efficient atjuicing fruits. i could fruits in there, i’m putting cucumbers in there and it’s doinga fairly decent job, but i did pineapples in this thing and i have videos showing theresults. the pineapple doesn’t go through, it clogs up, it backs up, it’s not comingout through the chute, the pulp’s not coming

out, there’s not adjustment, and it’sjust not coming out. and then i went to my friend’s house withone of these, which is one of the best juicers, but i wanted to juice the pineapple and i’mputting it in there, and i’m like, “this is not working,” and i was just gettingfrustrated. i had a coconut with the whole coconut meat so i put the coconut and putthe pineapple through because it provided the fiber to push the softer coconut through.it just didn’t work. if i’m using pineapple, i’m using this thing, so that’s why idon’t like using this one for fruits because it’s just not effective. and it takes melonger, like i would much rather take cactus fruits, chop them in half, auto-blend themin, my juice comes out.

all i’ve got to worry about now is peelingmy cactus fruit back, cutting it in half, dropping it in there, and it’s done whilewith this one i’ve got to cut the corners, and i’d had to sit there and push it in.this one’s so efficient it’ll actually grind up the cactus fruit seeds, it makesseeds in the juice like texture, it’ll make the juice not quite as sweet because it’sjuicing the seeds which is probably a good thing because it has the antioxidants in theseeds. it just takes longer, so that’ll be the answer to that one. man: the vertical juicer, is it good for oranges? john: the vertical juicer, yes. so i havejuiced citrus in here, i do recommend when

juicing citrus is that you take the citrusand you peel off the orange coloring on the outside. you leave the white pith. that’swhere the most nutrition is and where all the fiber is. so the more pith you put inthe juicer, the better it’s going to work. the less pith you put in, it’s not goingto work. my favorite combo actually is pineapple and orange juice. and there’s a specialtechnique to juicing pineapples in these styles of machines as well. the core has the mostfiber but also the most strings and it gets backed up the most. yes. woman: nutritionally speaking, can the omegavrt, can i feel good about that forever, as compared to say one that gerson recommends?

john: for those that don’t know gerson therapy,it’s a therapy that they use for cancer patients and people that doctors basicallysent home to lose their life. there’s no cure for them, and he recommends the norwalkjuicer. they actually have two in the kitchen today that they’ve been using to make yourbanana ice cream, a nice fluffy banana ice cream, and i love banana ice cream. when gersonwas alive, that was all they had, they didn’t have vrts, and i’m confident that if theyhad the green star, the vrt, he may have used that, but all they had at that time was thecentrifugal juicer, the high-speed one, or the norwalk, which is a much more lower speedand damages the nutrients much less. i’ve seen testing that shows the green starwill produce a higher amount of nutrition

than the norwalk, and so the companies thathave the vertical juicer haven’t exactly done the same kind of testing but i’m justsurmising from my opinion from the taste and from using them because they’re also ata low rpm, they’re also making a high-quality juice. i use low rpms in my house. i havethe norwalk, i have that, but i don’t use them because they’re a pain in the butt, not time-efficient, so i'm happy with these for a generally healthy person. now if i hadsome disease, i’m just going to use that because i want to give myself every possibleadvantage. who wants more watermelon juice? we’ll bring that back to you guys in. somebodygo around and share the green juice. man: what’s the difference between an omegajuicer and the vrt juicer?

john: so the next question is what’s thedifference between the omega juicer and the vrt juicer. basically this omega and the vrtare exactly the same in the usa. the same thing with minor differences. any other questions? woman: john? john: yes? woman: what if you find, okay, back to myplug problem, the first thing that you answered. sometimes i find that when i’m cleaningmy omega, underneath there’s liquid. john: right so if you pull the plug out, therewill definitely be liquid. woman: okay, so that’s what it is.

john: another thing is, two, on the verticaljuicer, oftentimes there may be liquid on all vertical juicers just because that’spart of the design. the seals tend to go bad so it leaks juice but the other problem is,if you’re not using it properly and it’s backing up inside there, the juice goes pastthe resistance which is down the center tube thing there. so it’s very important to useit properly. if you do have the omega vrt i would recommend watching the video onlinewhich is titled, “best practices for omega vrt” where i share my tips. i also have“how to make a green juice in an omega vrt,” where i share even more tips and after watchingsome of those you might get the technique down and you’ll minimize your leakage. yes.

john: alright, i’ll hang out here for alittle more if you want to come up and talk to me. thank you. john: so i hope you guys enjoyed your episodefilmed here at the 2014 woodstock food festival. if you guys like eating fresh fruits and freshvegetables, you’re gonna want to come out to the 2015 woodstock food festival. they’reactually doing them twice. they’re doing one in hawaii in april, which is going tobe more party/vacation/tour of hawaii with unlimited fresh fruits and vegetables to eat,and then they’re gonna be doing it again in august 2015 in upstate new york once againand man, it’s just a party. i love it so much and these are the very equipment andjuicers and blenders they use behind the scenes

in the kitchen and you could also use in yourhome. hopefully after watching this video you’velearned some of the pros and cons of using the blender or the juicers, and also the juicerthat may be best for you. now be aware that the juicers that i showed in this video, someof them are older models. so nowadays, omega instead of the vrt 350, they have the omegavsj 843 which is my new favorite vertical single auger juicer. omega also has the omeganc800, which is the upgraded model of this nc 8006 that i showed. and the vitamix isthe good old vitamix the model i recommend is the vitamix turboblend vs. that’s themodel you’d want if you’re into getting into a healthy fruit-based and vegetable diet.it comes with a nut bag and a really cool

dvd as well as a recipe book that does notcome with any either vitamix. that will encourage you to eat more plant-basedhealthy foods instead of the other processed and junk foods that may be contained in theother vitamix recipe books that may come with the vitamix. so i hope you guys enjoyed thisepisode. if you want to learn more about the juicers and see specific juicer comparisontests, make sure to check out my youtube channel. i have over 350 videos at this point describingthem and comparing them side by side so that you guys can learn which juicer may be thebest for you, because the best juicer for me may not be the best one for you but itdepends all on what you want to juice. so to purchase the juicers you saw today, besure to visit the site discountjuicers.com.
