alright! this is john kohler with discountjuicers.com.today we have another exciting episode for you. what we're going to do today is comparetwo juicers against each other, head to head in this juice-off spectacular. so the juicersthat we have today are the omega nc800, which is probably my favorite horizontal singleauger juicer on the market at this time, against the all new just released competitor, thephilips avance hr1897 and they call it and micro-masticating juicer. so yeah, it lookspretty cool. i kind of like the design a little bit, but basically what you're gonna see isthat this machine is basically a single auger juicer not a masticating juicer. because theonly masticating juicer is the champion juicer because that masticates by chewing. theseactually work by crushing and squeezing. if
you want to learn more about the differentstyles of juicers including masticating, cold press, twin gear, single auger, horizontal, vertical, dual stage press, check the link down below. i have an hour long videos wherei go into all the different major styles of juicers styles that are on the market todayso you guys can pick out the right one for you. so without further ado, let's go ahead andget into this juice-off, but the first step of his juice-off is that we'll go ahead andexplain and take apart both machines and explain how they particularly operate. we're gonnastart with the easy one over on this side, the omega nc800. now, the omega nc800 hasbeen out for quite a while now and actually
it is the latest upgraded model of omegassingle auger horizontal juicers. this is the replacement to the very popular omega 8006that still gets highly rave reviews on, but in my opinion you don't want to buy the oldermodel you want to get this newer model because there are some benefits to this newer modelthat the older model simply do not have. any case, how this machine works is you will stickin the produce in the top of the feed chute, it goes in and it basically hits an auger.i'll go ahead and remove the auger so you guys can see this. and as the produce hitsthe auger, the auger is spinning around at a low and slow eighty rpms or revolutionsper minute. and as-- so you put a carrot in there it chunks off a piece of carrot, thecarrot pieces are now forced down the auger.
and forced into a smaller and smaller spacemeaning it's literally crushing and squeezing. it-- at the same time this screen is aroundthe auger so on the initial crush, juice is released and exists down through the holesthrough the bottom of the screen here, stage one. as the pulp goes down this cone whichbasically compresses the space more, chews up the fibers more, makes it up into smallerparticulate, makes it release more juice. more juice is then extracted in the secondstage juicing screen. at which case the pulp is then ejected out the front. and on thefront of this unit, unlike the predecessor model the 8004 and 8006, this actually hasan adjustable endcap. the tension on the 8004, 8006 was fixed. this is adjustable. you canset it from zero to to five. i do encourage
you guys if you're juicing like vegetables, hard vegetables and leafy greens to set it on five. that's gonna put the most back pressurein so that means you're going to get the highest yield. matter of fact this machine, the newermodel over the 8000 series in my testing gets about i don't know 8-12% more juice. on averageabout 10%. that because of this-- okay, i want to show you then i want to go ahead andshow you guys the feed chute here. so that's the feed chute size. this is the expandedfeed chute size other the predecessor model. and this is the largest feed chute size onany horizontal single auger machine on the market at this time. and that's why i reallylike the nc800 cause it really allows you to do less cutting, and it makes things easierto feed into the juicer so you can get your
juice and you can be done with juicing andcan get onto doing other things in your life. now this machine here is nice and heavy. thishas a full fifteen year warranty. and this machine and the philips advance that i amtesting today are actually list out at the same price. but as you'll find in a minute, there's some differences with the philips. let's go ahead and show you guys how easythis is to assemble. we're going to go ahead and take the main housing and put it on here, there's an open and close, just turn that to close. just gonna drop the auger back inthere. put the screen in and then finally the endcap, goes right in place, got thatcranked up to five. alright now i want to go ahead and show youguys the philips advance micro-masticating
hr1897 machine. this one is also actuallya single auger machine, a little bit different. ah, pretty skinny if you guys look at it fromthe side and this guy's a little fatter from the side. this one actually has a built-inpulp container, and this one does not. go ahead and move that back to the side for youguys. now to remove this you're gonna flip this top and this whole assembly comes off.it's kind of like flipping this off and this whole assembly comes off so that's kind oflike the similarities. and then instead of all the parts on this one it's a lot easierto assemble because everything comes out the front, this some of the parts come out thefront and some of the parts come out the back. so we'll worry about the front first. i guessit depends on what you want to call the front.
okay so you put the produce in here and thejuice comes out the front where as on the nc800 the juice comes out the bottom. andout the back which actually just drops into this container comes the pulp. so on thisauger the auger runs forward and moves the produce forward on this unit the auger actuallyruns backwards and runs the pulp into the back and the juice comes out the front. imean it's just-- i don't know maybe it's backwards like philips. we'll see if that works. okayso i'm taking this apart here. i got the front endcap and this is the endcap here. thereis no adjustment on here like there is on the nc800. there is this little button youpress which is a stopper which stops the flow of juice in your glass which is actually kindof nice. next, this machine actually does
not have a juicing screen. so that can bea good or a bad thing. we're gonna see what happens. many people don't like to clean thejuicing screen cause it can take a good amount of time to clean. on the nc800 it takes meabout a minute and a half to clean the whole machine. so it's one of the easiest juicersout there. this one instead of having a juicing screen it basically has a this little plasticpiece that you set into each other. and it kind of makes like screen but it's not reallya screen. it's just plastic. it's lined up so close together that it's screen-like. butthis is going to let significantly more pulp through than the screen on the nc800. nextwe can go ahead and pull out the auger. and here's the auger on the philips. it's actuallynice and long. i do like it actually cause
on the main grinding area it is stainlesssteel on this side. but on the other side it's all plastic in there. and then we canunlock this area here. and this just basically comes out. this is where the pulp drops intothe bin. and this whole grinding apparatus all through here is plastic. now the interestingthing is omega nc800 does come with a cleaning brush to make cleaning easy. and the philips, despite some of these nooks and crannys does not come with a cleaning brush. so that youmay need to provide yourself. but yeah, looks like a pretty simple design. assembling this,we're gonna go ahead and back up. so on this there's a little arrow here, we need to takeout the back piece. and there's a little lock and unlock, and we're going to go ahead andgo to the unlock and turn it to the lock.
that puts that in. then we're going to goahead and put the auger all the way in there, the nice and long auger. then we're goingto go ahead and put the juicing screen in there and finally this endcap. and once again,on here there's a little lock and unlock and a little arrow. we're gonna line that up withthe unlock and and then turn it to the lock and now this piece is assembled. and now we can go andtake this on like, push it all the way in, and put that little clamp down and we're readyto juice. so the philips over on this side, only hasa one year warranty. so you're spending several hundred dollars on a machine i think you shoulddefinitely have more than an one year warranty. cause it just sounds like to me like theywant to pump machines out, sell 'em and then
basically forget about 'cha. elsewhere theomega is here to stand behind their product. now the curious thing is philips is knownfor making all kinds of kitchen appliances for many years. i think we had philips applianceswhen i was a kid actually. but they haven't really specialized in juicers until recently.they've always had [indiscernible] juicers which in my opinion are just some really inexpensivejuicers that aren't so good just to have a juicer that they could sell. but it was a[indiscernible] it didn't really operate so well, so i'm really curious and hopefullythey got their million dollar engineers to really design a good machine that's gonnawork. they make some lofty claims like this gets 90% of all the fruit into the glass andall this stuff and that seems like a really
high yield. this is advertised as a fruit, vegetable, leafy green and can actually also process nuts. to make things like the nutmilks. so yeah i mean-- oh yeah, i wanted to go ahead and turn this on for you guysto show you the sound levels. so the omega nc800 rated at 80 rpms or revolutions perminute and the philips, nowhere in the manual, the recipe book that's included, anywhereon their online website, foreign websites that i could find, could i find the rpms orthe revolutions per minute. i also did actually make a call out to philips directly to askthe rpms, and they checked with their supervisor, and they didn't know the rpms either. so [indiscernible]the rpms of the machine, that's-- that's interesting. so anyway, let's go ahead and turn this on.you guys can see that it really turns on and
really speeds up. a little bit louder, high-pitchedwhine to it. really chugging on there. i'm going to definitely say that it's-- i meanthat thing is definitely chunking around. several hundred rpms would be my best guess, man. alright, i'm going to go ahead and turn that off. we're going to go ahead and turnon the more calm, sincere sound of the omega nc800. a lot more deeper hum, moving a lotmore slower, and i want to encourage you guys, when you're buying a juicer, one of the mostimportant criteria for me is preserving the utmost amount of vital chemicals and vitalnutrients in the juice. it's been determined that these vital chemicals and vital nutrientshave some protective qualities than may get conferred onto us when we drink the juice.for example, they've shown that broccoli has
anti-cancer properties in there and if youextract broccoli with a high speed juicer or even a high speed blender there's 50% lessof that cancer fighting activity than if you use something like a slow juicer. so i alwaysencourage you guys to get the slow juicer with the lower rpm than instead of the fasterone. so that's pretty much enough talk on thisepisode about the different machines, comparing them, how they look and how they're assembledand how they sound. what i want to get into next is the juice-off comparison where i'llbe juicing equal amounts of carrots in both machines and share with you guys the results. so now i'm back and i'm ready to juice inboth machines. we have 31.9 ounces of carrots
in each glass we're going to juice througheach one. i think first i'll be juicing through the omega nc800 over on this side. gonna goahead and get a stopwatch going for you guys you can see the total elapsed time. turn thisguy on and we're gonna go ahead and get juicing here. alright down to our last carrot righthere going right in the omega nc800. basically i just tried to let the machine auto feedthe carrot in as much as i can and basically just help it along by just really pushingit hard but just by setting the auger on it to force into the auger. so it totally getsshoved in there. because if you push things in too fast you maybe feeding things too fastwhich will compromise your yield. alright looks like we're pretty much done juicingin the omega nc800, i'll just go and see where
we're at. we're at about three minutes. goahead and stop that. reset it. turn this baby off. next let's get setup and juice the philips.alright let's go ahead next using the philips. i'll get this guy started. and turn this guyon. this really takes off micro-chunks instead of large chunks at a time. if you guys cansee it's [indiscernible] it up and we're finally getting some juice out. this is gonna takea lot more pushing. alright looks like we're about done and we're over three minutes. soit took a little bit longer in the philips. a lot more interaction it took on my part.let's go ahead and turn that guy off. that was also a fair bit louder. it works significantlyquicker but at the same time it doesn't auto feed on its own while this you have to reallykeep the pressure on and keep the juice coming
out. let's go ahead and tip this guy up alittle bit. see if we can get any last little bits of juice out of the machine, we willdo this also on the philips. move that guy out and put this into place. on the philips, let's go ahead and lift this guy up and aww if there's any juice in there. definitelygetting some drips. now on the philips we can press this little button to stop the flow.now let's go ahead and take a look at the yield. okay let's go ahead and do a closeup on the juice produced. over on the nc800 side we have about 425 ml . it's kind of halfwayin between 400 and 450 ml. and over on the philips micro-juicer, looks like we got justabove 300ml. above about halfway between 300 ml and 350 ml. it looks like the omega nc800made about 23% more juice in this comparison.
and the winner was the omega nc800 definitelymade more juice. i wonder, looking at the quality of the juice, if we kind of like lookup to the light, like the omega nc800 juice seems a bit darker to me which means it'sextracting more of the pigments vital chemicals from the juice. now i did choose the specialpurple carrots today because they did a study with rats. they fed rats like junk food andpurple carrots or junk food without the purple carrots. and even if the rats were eatingthe junk food with the purple carrots i think this study went like they didn't gain weight.but when they didn't have the purple carrots they gained weight. and so this is the powerof the purple carrots. if you want to maintain your weight, man, juice some purple carrots.that's why i juice the purple carrots to maintain
my weight. alright so besides just the quantityof and the color that i kind of talked about i want to go ahead and filter the juice out.we got two little glasses here as well as two sieves. i'm a little worried that thephilips that does not have a juicing strain made may leave more pulp in the juice whichmay artificially inflate the yields also not give you a nice mouth texture in your mouth.so we're gonna go ahead and pour the philips juice first through the sieve and we're gonnasee what we get caught in the sieve. alright, so we did definitely catch some pulp in thesieve. put that aside. next we're gonna check out the nc800 juice. put through the samesieve here see what kind of pulp we get caught on that. alright so you can can clearly seeby the glasses that one of the machines definitely
made juice. and one of the machines made morepulp. and if we take a look little pulp patty here and the pulp patty here both machinesdid put some pulp in the juice. actually the omega nc800 put a little bit more, but itstill made more juice and even after taking out and accounting for the pulp as you guyscan see it still made more juice. now because we have it in a clearer glass it's easierto kind of look through and i see that the nc800 is a little bit darker just from myeye. i don't know if you guys can see that. it's pretty close on there. i would encourageyou guys to always choose a juicer that creates nice, rich, and dark juice that unoxidized.there's some juicers that actually oxidize because it does run at a high speed and it'sgetting darker not because it's extracting
more nutrition but because oxidizing and turningthe juice color. for example if you cut open an apple it starts to turn brown. next i wantto try the juices. let's see first i want to try the philips juice. that's good carrotjuice. once again, once we filtered it nice and smooth. kind of tastes a bit water-y tome. let's go ahead and taste the nc800. see if i get any different labor. still tasteskind of waster-y. i taste a little bit more of a carrot punch. i don't know what thatis exactly about. definitely good stuff. lastly, let's take a look at the pulps here. the pulpover on the philips side. the pulp over on the omega nc800 side. sticking my hand inthe pulp, just grabbing a whole bunch, trying to squeeze it, you guys can see i'm gettinga little bit of juice from my fingers but
it's pretty, pretty dry. now in general, iwant to let you guys know that one pound of carrot's juice generally produce 8oz of juice,so the nc800 produces about on par and the philips actually produced under par. and thisis comparing to a [indiscernible] style machine which actually does a fairly good job at juicingthe carrots. let's see over on this side, taking this pulp. wow look at that. it's drippinga lot more juice out which means the pulp is significantly wetter which means the machinewas not able to extract as much juice out of the pulp. and this makes sense becausethere actually was less yield in the glass in the end. so in the end of this episode, i'm gonna haveto say the philips is a fail. it actually
made way less juice, sells for the same price, has a one year warranty, instead of a fifteen year warranty. i think the philips designerspersonally need to get back to the drawing board to make the machine more efficient.now, i do like how it looks. this would look good on your european style kitchen, but ifyou are all for looks, and not for real world performance, you don't want to definitelygo for the omega nc800. kind of reminds me of one of those jock guys that went out withthe girlfriends. the cheerleader. not a whole lot going on upstairs if you know what i mean.i'm kind of a more functional guy myself but hey. you guys want a good looking machinethat doesn't perform well they got the philips out there for you. for me i'm going to aheadand stick with and recommend that you guys
purchase the omega nc800. if you want to gethorizontal single auger food and vegetable juicer that's going to get a higher yield, longer warranty, and be there for many years to come so you guys can make a differencein your life by including more of these fresh fruits and vegetables especially the leafygreens and sprouts and wheatgrass which this machine will juice beautifully. so you canbe healthier cause that's what the juicers are all about. they are simply just toolsthat allow us to maximize the amount of fruits and vegetables that we would not normallybe able to eat. now i'm literally going to get in 4lbs of purple carrot juice into meand i wouldn't normally have got it in. thanks to this juice-off. thanks to omega and tothe philips here. if you guys enjoy this episode,
i want to encourage you to support me andmy work, that's how i'm able to make these videos when you guys make your purchase atdiscountjuicers.com, whether you've done that in the past or that you will in the future.i want to thank you guys for that because with your purchase i can continue to do mymission to male videos, to make change in the world that i want to see and literallyjust people eating healthier. cause i almost lost my life through illness, through sicknessbecause i wasn't eating the right foods. and i'm here to share what i've learned with theworld how you can start eating healthier by simply getting a juicer, getting these freshfruits and vegetables in you because most americans simply do not.
also if you've enjoyed this episode hey simplyplease give me a thumbs up to let me know. i'll be doing a few more episodes with thephilips comparting it other style juicers we have at discountjuicers.com so you guyscan learn the ins and outs of all the different machines and how they work in real world experiences.cause a lot of manufactures will tell you there's is the best, and stores will tellyou it's the best, and oh they make good stuff. but then when you test it it doesn't work.and nobody else does this stuff, not juicers anyway, to the level that i do except me thati'm aware of. also be sure to click that subscribe button right down below to be notified formy new and upcoming episodes that i have coming out every five to seven days. i'll be testingnew juicers, sharing with you guys my cleaning
tips. i have a really good episode on howto minimize the damage on when you're blending. and also be sure to check my past episodes.i have over four-hundred episodes now. they contain a wealth of knowledge, me sharingmy juicing expertise with you guys, comparing juicers, and explaining it to you becauseno one else is simply doing this so that you guys can get the right juicer for you. causethe right juicer for me may not necessarily be the right one for you. so once again myname is john kohler with discountjuicers.com. be sure to visit discountjuicers.com/youtubefor special promotional offers for our youtube visitors. alright, special tip man. we're going to seehow much extra juice we can get from the pulp
out of the philips if we run it back throughthe omega nc800. once again, make sure it's set on five. turn this baby on and we're goingto drop the wet pulp. alright pretty much got all that wet stuff through there. andlet's continue to feed this in. it doesn't feed through super easy. and some of the pulpcomes out in all big chunks at bottom so we're gonna have to filter this. but actually we'regetting a fair bit amount of juice. actually it looks like to me, it's very dark. alright, just got done juicing that stuff. and we're going to have to definitely strain this outbecause there's definitely some pulp that's going to be caught by our strainer. nothingbetter than free juice. alright let's see how much more we made and how wet the pulpwas on the philips. wow. alright see that
a lot of extra pulp in there? but no worriescause i have an extra strainer to deal with it all. looks like to me that we got almostanother 200 ml of juice extracting the pulp out of the philips in the omega nc800. thatis good stuff.
