in today's tutorial we're going to makea very interesting dish cloth using the corner to corner concept we're going toapply some stripes and this will be a lot of fun. welcome back to the crochet crowd aswell as yarn inspirations , your host mikey today we're going to work on a corner tocorner concept of using this for a dishcloth and i'm going to show you howto change colors i'm going to show you how to grow bigger and smaller and i'mgoing to show you how to do some striping work and what to look for whenyou're going to do that so we have one stripe directly down the middleand you can have a lot of fun with this

particular concept and the key idea forthis is never to have any yarn strands coming out of the work and i'm going toshow you how to deal with those as we go along as well so let's work on thecorner to corner this cloth now so in today's pattern we're going to beusing bernat handicraft her or sugar lily and cream both are made by yarn inspirations youneed to use cotton when using this kind of concept for your kitchen or yourbathrooms because it's cotton you can machine wash it and it will hold up toscrubbing dishes also being tea towels potholders a lot of great things can bedone with cotton

there's also a free pattern today thatwe're going to be talking about and this also has a diagram showing you what'shappening with the stitches as we grow bigger and bigger and you can see thatthere is a striping concept at a slightly differentfrom the way that i've done it but again that's your creativity you can decidewhat's right for you so without further ado let's grab someyarn let's show you how to do this particular idea you're going to need a five millimetersize h crochet hook today so let's begin by creating a slipknot and we're goingto put the slipknot onto the hook make

sure you leave an extra long tail foryourself to use a darning needle to weave in the ends you really do want todo it with a darning needle when it comes to dish cloths. let's insert hook so we're going to dothis is corner to corner concept and this is really quite easy if you've everdone a corner corner you know exactly what to do if you're not this may be your lucky day i want you tochain six so yarning over pull through six so one two three four five and six now this is the start of one corner thatis going to be on the side as well as one box

so let's just pull up the example andshow you what we're doing so each one of these is like a box you kind of see it looks like a box oksee how it's working together so in one direction the boxes all leanin one direction so you can see they all kind of leaning on their side and this direction but you're looking at thewhite they're kind of like facing up as if you're crocheting it so depending it which way you're goingit makes these turn over on the side or stand straight up

so what we're doing here right in thevery beginning is that works creating the concept of the corner so what i want you to do is, fourth chainfrom hook so just count back so one two three go to the fourth go into the back looponly and i want to double crochet in that fourth chain and i want you to doublecrochet two more times so just keep going into the next chain double crochetand then the final chain ok so the chaining of the six ok the first part of it counted as onedouble crochet standing up and then the other three are standing side by sideso each one of the boxes is made up of

four double crochets that appear to bestanding up on your edge now you see this tale this is the verycorner so it's going to get wider from this point and just remember that taleis on the corner let's turn to work and do a row numberone just a correction this is a row number two we're going to turn our work so in order to just start a row andwe're growing bigger we have to always do the same thing watch what we're going to do rememberhow we chain six we've got to do the same thing

so one two three okay so three is the bottom of the boxand then what i do is like i hold it so i remember that so four five and six so because i pinched it here that's myfirst stitch where i'm going to go so i'm going to double crochet where i'mpinching it was right in ok that was the fourth chain from thehook and then i just double crochet the other three so i'm just double crochet in the thefinal three so what appears that i have for here butwhat's going on here it looks kind of

weird so all you just need to do is come tothe space here ok it's the right in the space and justdrag this over so it pulls over going right into the space yarning overpulling it through and through you're doing a slip stitch you're then going to so do you see howthis is lying down on the side and these are standing straight up so whenever i'm working on it all theones that i'm working on what's down straight up and the other road that i'mattaching they all appear to be of

fallen over you're going to chain up 3 so 1 2 3 andyou're going to put three double crochets into the same space so one two and three and that's rownumber two you see that let's turn our work and go for row number three so turning the work so what are we going to do to start ifyou said the chain six you're right so one two three use your fingers andpinch because that's your first stitch four five six right where you pinchingis your first one you're going to double crochet yourself back

so one two and three it's the same thing every time you'regrowing and getting bigger so what we're going to do is just pullit up and here's the next chain space our chain space just insert thehook pull through and through and then chain three one two three and thendouble crochet three more times into the same space are you getting the concept it's all the same this is whyeverybody's so addicted to the stitches so easy

so once you get that done just reach forthe next one over here and insert in and pull through and then what are we goingto do we're going to chain three one two threeand then going into the same space three more times so each one of the boxes are made up offour double crochets let's turn our work and go for a fourth row so we're goingto just go with this color one more time before i'm going to show you how tochange colors so we're going to chain up how many to start so one two three pinch four five sixright where i'm pinching is the first

one so you can count it back but if youpinch it will save so much time so you're going to double crochetyourselves back on the chain total of three times total which gives you your four double crochets that you need and thenyou pull up and you go right into the space, slip stitch chain 3 123 the same space three more double crochets okay comingup here slip stitch one two three ok so it's gonna be three doublecrochets there and i'm going to at the end of this row i'm going to show youhow to change color so i'm going to just

come into the final here and one two andthree coming into the final so what i want todo at this point is that i want to fasten off my work and we are going touse a darning needle because it is a dishcloth and i want to stop here and iwant to add another row of a different color so what i'm going to do is i'm going tocut this yarn about 12 inches and using your darning needle just pull throughthe loop like this and i want you to along the row and i want you to come andjust come down to the next corner so just follow it down and just go in thereas well and my goal here is that because

i'm going this far back i'm going to be able to capture thisyarn as it's going to sit directly with this other piece right here so it'sgoing to get stuck underneath the stitches and then i'm going to use theremainder of this at the end to weave in my ends in order to get it completelylost in my work so let's turn our work so let's go andthis is where the end is so just remember where it is and i'm going tograb another color and show you what to do so i'm going to start off a slipknotand use a different color and i want to come in to the very edge

we're at the very top ok so and i'mgoing to yarn over and how many chains am i going - i'm going to go on yarn over and attach how many chains ami going to just start i'm still getting bigger if you said six the answers right so onetwo three pinch four five and six and then just do the same thing that youknow how to do on the fourth one back just double crochet yourself back alongthis chain smaller so what i want to do this strand strandhere i want you to just hold it open

over your work and i want you just toinsert in so that the strand is down on top and yarn pulling through ok and i want you to chain up 3 so 1 2 3just like you normally would keep it laying down on top of the line and thiswill get stuck underneath the stitchwork so for three more double crochets so youbarely see it coming up on this edge here and that's getting buried over hereand then just let it follow down and you can use a darning needle to hide in therest and you're just going to work your way across the road like you normallywould have

but you're using a different color ok sowhat i'm going to do at the end of this row i'm going to change color once againjust to show you it again so you can do the dish cloths any sizethat you want to. you just have to commit on how big thatyou want before you start decreasing it. so coming up to the end chain up three so do you remember how to fasten thisoff ok so i'm going to come up to the endi'm going to stop going to grab my scissors kind of a 12 inches maybe alittle bit longer and i want to pull it through the loop and i want you to weaveit in some of the stitchwork coming back

and what's my goal here do you rememberis that i want to get it and weave it through the first corner so just followit down here because then that will get me stuck i can stick my head job stitches in and this can be well hidden at thispoint and then leave the rest of it on the other side so what i like to do is ilike to have all my weave dens coming in on the one side so if you see all theseare on the side so that when you turn around you don't see anything so let's just finish that here so nowi'm going to add another color and we're

going to get bigger one more time beforewe are going to get smaller and i'll show you how to do that next so let's grab another color i'm going togo for green this time and i'm going to create a slipknot remember to leave alittle bit of an extra long tail and let's put it in our hooks so we have to look where the other onefinished off you can see it's right here so i want to start on that side andwe're going to get bigger one more time this is going to be the very middle ofthe stripe so if you ever look on this thing you'll hear you see the white hereso this will be the last time it's going

to grow and then on the other side we'regoing to get like this pink we're going to start decreasing on the other side soyou have to be very strategic with this so one of those ideas that people haveis that when they do stripes they end up miss aligning this last one and what they forget to do is that theyshould just do one row here in the middle or do three rows if you willnotice hit this is that you see one two and three you can never put two rows in the middlehere and keep it balanced so it either has to be one two and three is the samecolor or just one or it's got to be five

it's got to be an odd number in orderfor it to work so just be conscious of that so that's a big question we getconstantly so let's just join our work here remember that this is the last timethis is the center stripe and so we have to grow it one more time so one twothree pinch four five and six coming into the one i'm pinching that'sthe fourth one from the hook and you're going to do a double crochet yourselfback along the chain total of three times so okay so now we have this green one toworry about so what i want to do is that i want justto hold it up over top of the line and i

have this other one here to see this onehere this is the last one i carried i want to go around that one as well andpull through and through that's a slip stitch chain three one two three andthen go around and put this down on top so it's going around again if you can domost of this while you're in this motion of of hiding it you'll have lest tales to worry about atthe end of your project you can go one more time if you've got a longer stringif you want to you can just go up just trap it under position and chainedup three and continue just a crochet all the way

now this is the very last time this thatwe're going to grow and the next time going further on in this tutorial we'reactually going to get smaller so i want you to just do the sameconcept going all the way across can coming up all the way to the other sideand i want to go right into the very end so i'm still continuing to grow one twothree and i want to finish off this finalsquare before fastening off and i'm going to get smaller you don't need to change the yarn asmuch as you have to in order to change your sizes as far as like going biggeror smaller you can do a solid square

it's up completely up to you so let's fast in this off again and we're going to start getting smaller in the next part of this tutorial is soi'm going to show you how to decrease in what you need to look for the advantagesis every time you decrease your going to get faster and faster that's why peoplelove this particular afghan idea is that it starts out really quick and then itslows down as you get to the middle but once you get to the middle like i amright now is going to get faster and faster because there's going to be lessboxes to do at the end so i just weaving these in and let's begin the next part of thistutorial of getting smaller

so people get really confused with usand the email me a lot and they they're very confused on how it decreases sohere's an example that's done in what we've done is that we've got abigger and bigger and bigger until we've got into the middle . and we've gottenbigger and bigger and this time until we got to the middle . you can dorectangles if you want to and if you want to do rectangles one side has tocontinue to grow and the other side has to stop at a certain point so you can actually do rectangles and itwould start growing up this way if you wanted to

then you got to worry about yourstriping and your those kind of ideas but it's very possible to corner tocorner in rectangle because of it. so because i'm at themiddle . now the green that i just did on the sample is the white here so you'llnotice that the pink here is if i was to grow this any further the pink should beright over here ok and it should be out over this wayokay out but because we're decreasing now you'll see that it's going to fillin the spaces that's here and so you end up with aflat edge along the sides so we're going to keep decreasing and every time wedecrease we're going to eliminate one

box on each side as we get smaller so itjust as a matter of just understanding that and when you go to start and stopeach one of the the rose you'll have less boxes to work with let me show you how to do that so to beconsistent what color i want to bring back my yellow it's up to you doesn't have to bematching its you complete your business so i have to look where i finished thegreen and this is where i finished that i can see it's right here so this is where i'm going to start withdoing the yellow so normally what i

would have done is that i would havecome up to the outside chain my six and then there will be another box here andthen i would fill it in but because i'm not going to grow itanymore my first box is actually going to be sitting right in the space hereand then working across and then i don't go all the way to this side of the overhere i stopped in the last box space it isright here and so we've just eliminated out twoboxes there as a result so here's the thing you need to attachthis yarn right into the side here right into one of the double crochets do notgo into this chain one space as you have

a very ugly border that's going to happen so go right intoan actual stitch itself and attach your yarn so you're going to attach andyou're going to chain 3 so 1 2 3 because we're not growing we're notchanging six anymore so this makes it very easy and quicker to finishso you've got one in here now if you remember that it's made up of fourstitches so the other three are right in the side of the stitch here because sojust putting it in put your yarn that you've attached around so it gets stuckon your position and put in three double crochets so you already know how to dothis it's a matter of starting is what

is different so you're going to then come up to thenext box here just fold it up and then just put in your stragglers just to hidethem so slip stitch chain of three one two three and then just keep workingyour way across like you already know okay and just attached to the next one one two three now if you're not changingany of your yarn colors you will not have any of these tails hanging out butits kind of what makes it the term is the different colors that you can getwith the the corner corner concept so i don't have very much very many boxesleft because we are going to get smaller

on both sides so i'm just going tofinish this one up here and then we have one more box to do before we stop so technically so let me just slipstitch it so technically i would have had this box plus i have one up here butwe're not growing it out there so this is my very last box right hereso we chained up three and then just double crochet three times and whatwe're going to do at this point is that we slip stitch it to the final space andstop so if you want to rectangle at thispoint because you've already stopped this side if you wanted to grow arectangle you just keep going up on this

side and the other side you always stopon the last indentation in and then you can have a rectangle so now let's just fast in this yarn offanother 12 inches of yarn like so and you're going to leave it in yourwork like i showed you before its the same thing and i want to come down to thisfirst . right down here so just put it down through there and i do i like allmy yarn strands to be on one side it just makes it easier to find at the end so i'm going to pull it so that theending is on this side so we're going to turn our work and move up to the nextrow

so you can see that here the yellow isnow gotten smaller and now we're going to move back to the pink color back for the remainder of this project let's bring back the pink and now let'sjoin it so just looking to where i finished thatlast one ok so here it is here ok so i'm just going to turn my work sowe're going to come up on the corner ok so it right into the side stitchitself okay don't go into a space and i want to attach and chained up three onetwo three we don't change up six because you'renot growing so then you're just going to

come into the side space leaving thestraggler down on top of the line so you can get it stuck underneath there andthere's gonna be three double crochets like you already know and then you'regoing to come up to the next space like you already know so i'm just going tomove the straggler up so you kind of blends in so you don'thave to worry about it too much chained up three and then i'll even thatstriker down on top of the line once again so it's a way of hiding in those ends without having to worry about too much okay and you're going to keep goingacross so of course if you've changed

the the width of your dish cloth the theline will be bigger but again just like because we're decreasing there's goingto be less boxes to do every time you do a row coming up to the next one and weonly have one last box to do see it's the last space one two three so to keep a color consistent i'm notgoing to change the color for the remainder of this project so i slipstitch to the beginning and here's how i'm going to move across withoutchanging color i'm going to turn my work i'm going toslip stitch across to the third one so

going in and all i'm doing is moving mystarting point so i keep slip stitching until i get to the third one and thenthat's where i start again coming across ok so if you know how todo that slip stitching you don't have to change your colors arefasting off in order to get yourself in the right position ok and then slip stitch into the nextchain three now people have emailed me and asked medo you always have to be three double crochets in this space and the answer isyes the reason for is of the double crochetthe height is made up of three

so therefore in order to keep it as ablock you need to do it as three people have suggested to put up things of five the problem is that the first chain isonly three therefore it will not work out so thisis my very last box already so i'm just going to just join it to the top see it gets faster and faster so howmany boxes do i have left i have only one and two and then i have one final soi'm going to slip stitch to the third one one two and three

ok and changing three onetwo three coming into the side so if you start offby slip stitching to that first one of the of the one lying on his side youhave a really awful gap that will be noticed ok you're going to work across one twothree there's some amazing designs usingcorner to corner concepts or some really visually interesting things come intothe space and now you have only one box left if you can see it let's turn our work that slip stitchacross to the third one so one two and

three one two three and this is the very final box so onetwo and three like so and then join it so what i woulddo if i read you and you were me turn your work and slip stitch totes toget this string right to the corner it looks different it looks finished whenyou do that so you can either stop here and weave off but it looks finished when it's done on the top so what you're going to do is do now isjust trim your string about 12 inches or so and pull it through and what i woulddo is grab your darning needle so you

can pull on your work and this is what itlooks like so grabbing your darning needle you'regoing to insert the yarn into the needle like this and i want you to glide it in anote of your work three times so just right underneath the stitchdon't come to a border so ok so one ok and come back in the otherdirection for 2 - okay go in a different path could be going the same path it will fall out and go back for a third time when you go in and out three times yourtail will never follow at work because it's impossible for your project astretch and three directions at one time when it's being used so then you can cutit safely right down to the project

so the other tales that are in your workit doesn't take long to come back and all you just can do like this one's alittle short but what i can just do it slam the needle onto this here and i call itcan just do is that i can just glide it through one other direction just underneath and i want to capture itinto some fibers the more fibers you can catch underneath that the lesschances it will ever fall out so because i have come up through here and up i just just went up through this stitchhere underneath some fibers i can safely cut that out of position just like this

so you're going to come back even to thestarting one do the exact same thing just in and out 3 times and then you canhave an amazing dish cloth just like this all looks completely finished andyou have a lot of fun with it at the same time so until next time i'm mikeybe half of the crochet crowd as well as your inspiration . com enjoy your new dish cloths we'll see you have a great day.
