built in cabinets

- [kristina] hieveryone, kristina here. today i am finally doing thelong-awaited craft room tour. so i'm going to starthere, right at the door as i walk into my craft room, just like i did with myprevious craft room tour. and i'll link thatup in the top corner if you wanna check that out. before i re-did my craftroom about six months ago, this was a regularguest bedroom in my home

that i had turnedinto a craft room by bringing in somedesks and other like, shelving units, things like that. i brought it allin, it was kind of a hodge-podge of furniture. but now i have abuilt-in craft room. it was fantastic. it's so great to havea finished craft room that's meant forcrafting and creating,

so i absolutely love it. this is my job,my full-time job, so i really builtthis craft room for all the differentthings that i do. and it was probablya three month process finishing the craft roomfrom beginning to end, and i had a lot ofhelp from michelle, she is an interior designerand she actually worked on jennifer mcguire's craft room.

and i got in contact withher and we worked over email and over the phone andshe really helped me a lot by designing kind of thefloor plan of my new room and also orderingcabinets and working in some ikea cabinetsinto the whole process to make it a littlebit more manageable, as far as the budget goes. so i'm gonna start bywalking into my craft room, and the first thing i didwas i replaced the flooring.

i had carpet in here previousand now i'm using this luxury vinyl flooringfrom mannington. this is in the designsundance and the color smoke. and i will link tothat in the blog post, in fact a lot of theitems that i mention today will be linked in theblog post as opposed to at the youtubedescription because it'll be a little bit too lengthyand long for youtube, so if you are looking forlinks on specifics about

some of the things thatyou're going to see, please head over to my blogpost because everything will be linked over there. so i'm starting out cominginto my computer station right here, and i have an imac, this is one of the new 5kimac's that came out in 2016 and i have a 27 inchdisplay right next to it. beneath the display isactually a wacom or wacom, i'm not sure how to sayit, cintiq, that is,

it's almost like an ipad butit's hooked up to my computer and it becomes like a thirddisplay and i can design on it, so i use that for stampdesigning and different things like that, and i really love it. right above my work area here,i've got a few pieces of art, i have this really largek, this is one that i had in my old craft room andi just had it repainted, it got a little scuffed it withmoving and things like that, so i just repainted it,actually my contractor did,

and he also put somehooks on the back so it was easier tohang on the wall. in my previous craft roomtour, i told you guys i had to use nails to putit up, it was totally diy just what i could get to workand now i have a really nice some hooks on the backthat make it really nice. so over here, i'm gonna closethese blinds really fast, cause i'm getting a glare,i'll close these blinds, the lighting's going to changea little but here we go,

okay, so these pictures on thewall are letter press prints from jessica hische, she'sa fantastic graphic designer and lettering designerand she's just fantastic, and i love her quote uphere on the side that says "the work you do whileyou procrastinate is "probably the work youshould be doing for the "rest of your life." i think that's completelytrue and that's sort of what's happened with mewith my full-time job,

like what i just did as ahobby became my full-time job and it's fun cause it doesn'tmake it seem like work. so, i have some otherprints, that k and w from her and also her alpha-birds,those are from the, couple years ago and theni've got three photos of mannie, he'smy kitty who died about a year and a halfago, love him so much, so i had to includehim in my craft room. and coming past over here,as we enter the room,

there's anotherpicture of mannie peeking through right there. so as far as lightinggoes, you notice i have three light switches, that'sbecause i have many lights in my craft room. so i'm gonna span up hereand you can see all the light, different light fixtures,i've got three cam lights there's one right back heretoo, got three cam lights going down the side, andthen i have more going along

by the window, and theneven more as i go back to the back section ofmy craft room and then an overhead light as well. so there's lots and lots oflights, that is all i use for filming my videos,i just use those lights, so it's fantastic. and as far as making surei get the lighting right in my videos, ihave these blinds. these are blackout blindsfrom hunter douglas,

and they are fantastic,i love them so much, they block out all the daylightand it's really fantastic because when you're filmingvideos you wanna have a really like stable lightsource and you don't want it to be changing with cloudsand things like that so having these blinds hasbeen really beneficial. okay, so, next tomy computer station i have two ikea raskogcarts, i have my, all of my different coloring mediumsin there and i have these

reisenthel fabric, let'ssee, cupped fabric bins from the container storeand these are fantastic, they fit inside thosecarts really perfectly, so all my kind ofcoloring mediums in there including my copics andthen right here i have drawers, the bottomdrawer is a file cabinet, and then these two topdrawers i have various office supply items, pens, highlighters, post-it's, things like that.

coming over here to the otherside of my work station, this countertop is elevateda little bit higher than the regular desktop. and i did that onpurpose because iwanted to take advantage of the space underneath, right in here. i wanted to storelarge watercolor sheets or wrapping paper sheets, that's what i use as like my patterned paperbackdrop for my photos. i wanted a space tostore those so normally

i do not have boxeshanging out right there, normally that'sjust completely open and i'm able to slidethose watercolor sheets or the gift wrap sheetsin and out of that storage space veryeasily, so that's why that's a little bit higher. i was concerned since i'msitting here at my desk most of the time that imight hit this corner, but you know what, ithasn't been a problem.

i mentioned that tomichelle when we decided to elevate that worksurface there and i said, "you know what, is thatgoing to be a problem, "sitting at this tight corner?" and she said "no,don't worry about it, "i think you'll be fine." and you know, she was right. so that's just one ofthose things that's, one of the reasons why it'sbeneficial to have someone

who does this as theirjob to help you because i might have sacrificedall of that storage space for fear of, it being alittle bit inconvenient, you know, that my shoulderor my arm would hit that, but you know, thathasn't been a problem. so, there's that largespace right there. and this top drawer right here,i have a bunch of post-it's i'm not going to pullout all my drawers in this craft room tour, buti'll just pull out this one

cause it's nice and organized. so many post-it's, it'sa really deep drawer too. and i've got some funthings in here, some clips that some of you guys havesent me i'm storing to use, and i've got a little polybag with cat little post-it's you guys have sent, love those so much, thank you guys for sending them. and then soft close drawers,i think it's fantastic, it's so nice cause there'sno big banging noises.

so underneath is myprinter and it's actually on a rolling out cart,i need to pull it out so i can use the scanner ontop, but for the most part i just leave that inthere all the time. and right above iti have paper storage and all of that up thereis pretty much like my pre-cut papers andregular inkjet paper. okay, all right, so, i'm going to talk aboutunder the desk storage here

or just so you guys can seeit because it was something i really wanted tomake sure was built in. i have a shelf rightby some power outlets and i have my externalhard drive as well as my backup battery for mycomputer sitting right there, so convenient, they'reup off the floor, my hard drive can bea little bit noisy so i wanted to have itbeneath the desk area so that when i'm doingvoiceovers you won't hear it.

so this has been reallygreat and if you don't have a backup battery foryour desktop computer, i highly, highly recommend it. it's come in handy so manytimes when there's a storm and the power goes out, ihave about ten minutes before my computer completely shutsoff so it's been really great, you know, the power goesout and it starts beeping it wakes me up in themiddle of the night and i come to my office quicklyand shut everything down

so i don't lose any files,so it's really fantastic. and i also wanted to mentionthat that weird foam thing right there in thecorner, it's actually for dampening sound andthat's what i use when i do my voiceovers becausethis room has quite a bit of an echo to it sincei replaced the flooring so it's been reallygreat to have that, and i'll link thatto amazon as well, it's where i bought it.

that's a paper shredderover in the corner, that's been really great too, and i'm gonna move on. okay, in this cornerthis is where i have all of my inks andwatercolors stored, these are on little storageunits from stamp-n-storage and i will ink to thespecific pieces that i have as well as include photos, and i'll include photos on my blog as wellso you can see 'em.

but i got mydistress ink storage, i've got all my ink pads. up above, i have, these arebasically dr. ph martin's entire line of watercolorsand acrylic liquid colors and calligraphy inks andbombay inks, they're fantastic, they were so generous andsent me some products, they said "hey would youlike to try some products?" and i'm all "sure, why not,i already have a bunch." and then they proceededto send me practically

everything, so they wereso, so generous to do that and i've been kindaworking my way through and getting toknow the products. so, it's been reallywonderful to do that. i got two pictures upthere, daphne and sophie, there's daphne, there'scute little sophie, i've got some additionalstorage right there, it's kind of a mish-mashof things right now, but that's kinda how i work,

some ink pads that needto be put into storage, into they're actualpermanent space. i also wanted to mention thatas far as the ink pads go, this is how i have them, ithas labels on all four sides, with a swatch of the colorand then if i ever change how i store my ink pads, ifi turn 'em on their side, then they'llalready be labelled. so underneath thisarea, i've got my chair that will roll out here,

i have a striped bin,a little fabric bin where i keep, it's mostlylike nail polish stuff that i use the most often. so, i have a littlebin down there. big huge craft mat uphere, i've got my laptop on top of it rightnow at the moment. and i'll just roll this back in. that white clampy thing, that's what i use to clamp on to a shelf and then putmy phone on the other end

for live-streaming. and this clamp right herethat's on the edge of the desk, that is, that's like thebottom piece of an ikea lamp, i just don't have it set upbecause it's a little bit in the way when it's inthere so i just put that away and then when i need morelight, i'll pull it out and i can just slide itright into that clamp and it holds great. these four drawersare storing pens

and calligraphy supplies. so, in this drawer i'vegot just random markers, fountain ink cartridges, nibs and pen holders, i found these differentdividers at the container store, as well as thesedividers down here, this little tray withthe dividers in it, that's from the containerstore and all of these drawers are very shallow so they'reperfect for pen storage. okay, so right nextto my corner area,

so we're panning over, thesetwo closets or cabinets contain and store my stampsand dies and stencils. so in here are my stamps, this is a method of storage that's directly taken fromjennifer mcguire's craft room. michelle really helped mewith this, making sure i got everything ordered correctly. basically these arepull-out drawers and they're thesoft close as well, got my stamp storagepockets with these dividers

that are made outof a plastic folder. i use my labelmaker to label those and then i've got somethe greeting farm stamps down the center because thatwas the perfect gap for them. so, i've got four drawers, four pull-outs for that and i've got all my stamps inthere except for some stamps that i'm working on uphere, there's my box with things to do. over in this cabinet,i have my dies.

so, all of my dies arestored, i've got some gorgeous stamps down themiddle that i'm storing there, i've also got embossingfolders and background stamps as well as, i have thislike weird space right here, and you know what itwas perfect for storing those big mama rollsof 3-m foam tape. okay, next to that is twotall alex drawer units that are built into thecabinets, those are from ikea, and i've used my label makerto label what's inside of them,

so it's really easy to find. this little closet hereat the end, this stores all of my nail polish randomness including my favorite removeplus remover from zoya. i buy the big bottles. right above that cabinetare all my nail polishes. and they are storedin color clutch boxes, the purple and blueboxes i don't believe are being sold anymore butthese white and black boxes

you can find at thecontainer store, so let's pull one outfor ya, you can slip all of your nail polishesinside and it stores them, and i'll have thoselinked in my blog post, you guys wanna check those out. isn't that little cup so cute? jennifer mcguire sentme that for my birthday, it's adorable. i have a mini-splitair conditioner up here

because my craft roomgets really, really hot, it's in the farthestarea from the furnace or from the ac unit sothat's been really helpful i put it in last summer. we've got some justrandom things stored here at the end of these cabinets. these right here are gorgeousstamps storage cases. i mention on a crafty chatvideo that i was looking for the ruby mini-stamp whichis only sold with the case

and you guys were so generousand two of you sent me a case and then i bought one myselfand i was just so surprised you guys sent thoseto me and so grateful so i'm going to be giving thetwo that weren't sent to me away because they're extrasso watch out for that in the future for a give-awayand as a really nice reader corinna and her, i thinkit's her husband roger, they sent me a bunch of themini-stamps, all of them, they sent them as an adventfor christmas so i've been

opening them each day andgetting other stamps sets, it's been so fun andso all of the stamps that i had previouslybought, i'll be giving away. so watch for that. got some finished cards, i'vealso got some mail call cards right here that ineed to send off, and then all of thisin the back corner, that's all producti'm gonna give away. in this cabinet is storagefor like photography equipment

just random stuff as wellas i got a board here that i bring outfor photography. this is a padded floormat that i use when i'm going to be standingat my work station for a long period oftime and then i also have this stool here thatis a standing stool, so you kinda stand andlean against it on the seat and it kinda swivels andpivots, it's a little different i'm getting used to it, i'vehad it for a few months,

but it's been reallynice actually. got my trash can, really tall cause lots of trash. and then i have my timholtz stencils on a ring, and then i've put commandhooks and hung those up. this right here, theseare actually cards for white balancing my camcorderbefore i start filming, got some ink swatchesdown there as well. all right, so hereis my work surface

where i'm working on projects. so, the first thingi want to point out are these two units right here, these are, what are theycalled, boon stash organizers, you can get them from amazon, and i used to have one, and realized i wasusing so much of it and it was getting crowded,so i have a second one now and it's been fantasticto have the extra space. so i have all my mostused tools right there

and it's right bymy cutting mats and under my cutting mat ihave a non-slip grippy thing, like shelf liner so itdoesn't move around, and over here i have that's,it's a kallax unit from ikea and then i have thecounters coming out from it. it comes out and then atthe end it has drawer units. i don't know if you guys cansee that but it's actually two of those alex drawerunits back to back, and that makes the legs onthe end of the peninsula.

so, underneath i'vegot lots of storage, got some striped fabric bins, you can get some atthe container store but i got these from amazon, there were a littlemore convenient cause they shippedthem for free on prime. and i have my most used, like, not just tools but other thingsin these drawers. so this top drawer right here,

i've got my acrylicblocks, my craft sheets, corner chomper, i'vegot some alcohol wipes that clean up our color flops, post-it tape, things like that. next drawer down arebrushes and i've got lots and lots of brushes, cause i love those. down here i've gotlabelled tube watercolors and masking fluid. so it's just all ofmy tubes watercolors

that are in palettes. and then down here i'vegot regular palettes and peerless andwatercolor markers. so, there we go. then that last drawerhas tapes, sponge brushes and miscellaneous. the space right underneathmy work surface, i've got special papersover here like vellum and foam, fun foam andacetate, things like that.

got baby wipes, andcardboards, grid paper, mini-scoring board, got my paper trimmer and then i also havea roll of foam tape and coffee filters. and then up here rightnext to my work surface, i have my camcorderremote, my heat tool and then my remoteto my ac unit. bottom shelf overhere i've got my tim holtz distress inktins, as well a palette,

and i've got extra batteriesfor my mic for my camcorder. right above that in thiscalyx units i have an insert from stamp-n-storage,it's an ink pad insert, i've got my most used ink pads, next to that are papersthat i use all the time. this is once againanother insert from stamp-n-storage and i'vegot like desert storm cardstock, neenah solarwhite, just a bunch of stuff that i use really often.

and right above that ihave this individual sheets of paper towels, i lovethat for watercolor and then i've got mythree most used or four most used containersof embossing powder. got pre-cut sheetsof paper right here, and some little randomthings and watercolor paper. back here i've gotmy mic that i wear when i'm gonna betalking on camera and i've got that cutek that a reader sent

or subscriber sent withmannie and me on it. up above this area ihave a united states map that i designed for basicgrey a few years ago. unfortunately it'snot available anymore. basic grey closed down this year and they're focusingon their new business called modify ink. i think they havethe same design and they're usingit at modify ink.

if they are, i will try tolink to it in the blog post. and then down there ihave more paper storage. and it's kind of arainbow of paper storage. i'm gonna walk aroundso you can see, how i have these stored. i have these heavy dutyplastic slip pockets and i've labelled themwith the color name and brand. and so i'm just slidethese in and out

whenever i needa specific color. and also makes itso i can put scraps of that cardstock inthe pocket as well. i got my planners, andalbums down this one side. i have these clearplastic drawer units that i don't reallyhave a whole lot stored in 'em right now, they're labelled as if i were storing my pensbut obviously my pens are over in, all those drawers,

so i don't need those anymore. so, i've just been kinda like, these have been acatch-all for things. this is a bag of candy thatcorinna and her husband, roger sent to me,all european candy, it's gonna take me a whileto get through all that but i'm excited to trythem all, they're so yummy. okay, so the last thing ithink i'm going to cover is my camera set up.

i'm gonna see if i can get this so you can see it really well. okay, so, this is actuallythree pieces of equipment that i bought on amazon. you can get 'em at yourphoto supply store too. so i've got my camcorderright here, right? i'm gonna come 'round thisway so you can see better. there we go, okay camcorder. then it's attachedto a ball head mount

which is on an arm, thosetwo long, two long things that are going to havean elbow, it's an arm from manfrotto, thenthere's an adapter and then the base plate thatis hooked into the ceiling. so i'll link all of thosepieces in the blog post if you're curiousabout those items. it's really sturdy, it holdslike, i think something like 15 pounds like thebase plate holds 15 pounds. the camera's likebarely even five,

i think it mightbe less than that. and the arm is maybe threepounds so it's definitely under the weight limit andit's been really sturdy. and the thing i like aboutit is that it has this knob right there on kindalike the elbow area, and you loosen that knoband then all the pieces kinda move freely soyou can really move your camera around and get itin the right position. so, i really, really like that.

so, that is basicallymy craft room. i'm pretty sure i wentthrough almost everything, except for maybe these drawers. these drawers are labelledwith random things that i'm storing. these are two alexdrawer units from ikea and they're builtinto the cabinetry so, i just got randomthings in here. i love this drawer, this is probably

my most favorite drawer. sequins, love, so sparkly. oh, and if youguys are wondering these containers forsequins those are craftmates lockables and iwill link to them in the blog post as well. all right, so thatis my craft room, hope you guys enjoyed,it's definitely

a working spacethat i have a lot of stuff out because i'mconstantly working on things and thanks so much for watching. check out the blogpost if you're wanting to know about anymore of theitems that i've mentioned and thanks so much for watching, i'll see you guysin the next video.
