this is john kohler with discountjuicers.com.today we have another exciting episode for you and this was spawned by a viewer actually.he wrote in and said “hey john, what appliance do i need to make coconut milk? do i needa juicer or do i need a blender? because i saw you know a lot of people make the coconutmilks in the blender and then you know you make it in the juicer.â€. so this video isgonna answer that question once and for all. plus it’s also gonna let you know you knowhow to make the coconut milk. i go through a lot of coconuts here. this is a standardbrown coconut that you may be familiar with. it’s more mature, it doesn’t have a lotof good water content and i mainly buy the coconut for the liquid containing side. insteadof buying a zico or one of the those other
bottled coconut waters, you know i think it’sbest to get foods actually found in nature. so if i want coconut water i not gonna buya package, i’m gonna buy a real coconut. and based on my calculations i found thatactually a coconut in most cases is actually cheaper than buying the coconut water in thepackage. plus besides just getting the coconut water you’re gonna get the delicious coconutmeat so i have an abundance of extra coconut meat here because i always drink the waterand don’t eat the meat a lot. so what i do with the meat is actually take it out anddehydrate it so i could have my own coconut shreds for later or i’ll blend somethinglike this to make the coconut milk which i can use you know in different recipes or otherthings. i’ve been using it in the ice cream
maker. it makes some kick ass vegan ice creams.but today we’re just gonna show you how to use the coconut milk and i think that youknow coconut milk to drink it is far better than any dairy you know kind of milk or whatnot. in my opinion dairy is not necessary and i want you guys to think about that fora minute. dairy is not necessary. we don’t need dairy to live, there’s no specificnutrient in dairy that we require and when we’re drinking dairy we’re getting ournutrients second hand. second hand from the animal that produced it based on what theyate. so i say make your own milk from plants because that’s what the animals are eatingto make their milk. so i like coconut milk, that by far is my favorite milk due to thelauric acid content and the medium chain fatty
acids that are so beneficial. and you knowi don’t like any extracted coconut oil because that’s 100% fat but in the coconut milkyou got a lot more nutrition because not only do you have the fat but you also have youknow some of the fibers left over and all of the different nutrients and phytochemicalsthat’s contained within the coconut. so let’s get back to the question, what’sbetter to make coconut milk a juicer or a blender? well let me give you the secret.in general right, if you wanna juice you wanna get a juicer. if you wanna do another youknow task in the kitchen then you wanna get a blender. the blenders for the most partare a lot more versatile than the juicers. for example this is the omega vrt juicer andthe omega vrt juicer pretty much only juices
and makes coconut milk and yes you could kindof put your you know frozen banana sorbet in it and nut butters in it but it’s notreally you know designed to do that. there are other juicers such as the omega 8004 or8006 that will not really make coconut milk too well but will also do the nut buttersor the frozen fruit sorbets. that’s at the best of course to make the coconut milk orany type of milk is actually the blender. so actually why don't we just go ahead andget into that now that you guys know this. one of the things that has come out a lotlately is that you know there’s now taking certain companies are promoting their juiceras a almond milk maker and while i think drinking almond milk is definitely better than drinkingcow milk, in my opinion making almond milk
in a juicer when you put in the whole almondsor whole pieces of coconut chunks in the juicer, that’s a bad idea. why? because you’renot gonna get the optimal nutrition out of the almonds. when the juicer does break thenuts down, it’s gonna be far better to actually put the nuts into the blender to break themdown cause you get a much better extraction and more nutrients out and more of the fattyacid content out of the extraction into your milk. so it’s just gonna taste that muchbetter. so that’s as i said some juicers will do the milk making but i always recommendthe blender. that’s what i’m gonna show you guys today with a twist that’s why ihave the juicer on the table as well. the first thing is we need to get out our coconutmeat. so you saw i generally like to use the
white coconuts, they’re lower in fat thanthe standard browns. plus i drink these for the water the water tastes ten times betterthan the brown coconut. i’m gonna go ahead and put this guy to the side over here. andi basically pop a hole into the coconut as you could see every coconut has three holes.it has two eyes and a mouth, much like us, two eyes and a mouth. a coconut is actuallycalled a monkey face because if you look closely the coconuts always have two little eyebrowson two of the holes and those are the eyes and then one hole does not have a brow andthat’s the mouth. the mouth is the easiest spot in the coconut to put a you know puta screwdriver through or have a special coconut opener to pop a hole in there. do the mouthonly and then stick a straw to drink the water
but then i’m left with all the meat. whatdo we do with the meat? once the meat’s in there we need to get it open. i got a nicecleaver here. i’m just gonna basically tap the middle like it’s the earth and you’retapping around the equator and we’re gonna tap and turn. tap turn, tap turn, tap turn, tap turn, tap turn. and if you do this good enough what’ll happen is it’ll actuallyopen up much like that and journey to the center of the earth. so once you got it openthe next part is to get the coconut meat out. now many of you guys might use a knife oryou know a butter knife or some tool to try to get in there but it can be very challengingto get the coconut meat out so i found this really cool tool. it’s a coconut de-meatingtool. this is available at youngcoconuts.com.
all you do is simply take this tool whichhas a sharp knife edge, so you do wanna be careful about this. if you do live in brooklynyou know and you’re a lady you could carry this in your purse and take it out and jabpeople with it if they're trying to cost you. i just don't live in brooklyn so i’m usingit to get my coconut meat out. so all you do is you take this tool and you get in betweenthe shell and the coconut meat like that. and i like to just stick it in all the wayand then i’ll kind of like turn it as i’m working it around the whole coconut. now ialways encourage you guys you know to make your coconut milk out of fresh coconuts. youcan't do this with the dried coconut shreds from the store. it’s definitely not thissame. so you want the food to have life in
it cause the life that’s in the food transfersto your life and makes you more lifeful or rejuvenated. so it’s like eating live foodsand the reasons why i like the juicers and the blenders is they allow you to eat morelive food. foods that are live and in my opinion life begot life. so as you can see i’m workingaway at this coconut. i’ve stuck this tool in all the way, loosened up the majority ofthe coconut meat, and once you get in there you can then try to stick this tool in furtherand keep rocking your hand back and forth and as you can see if you’re successfulyou’ll get a little bowl out. so this would be a cool serving dish or actually you couldeven if you’re like a wood worker you could sand this stuff down and make a little bowlsout of these things. it’s really cool but
actually i just compost these. now what you’regonna notice is on the back of the coconut you’re gonna get some part of the like theshell fragments. not necessarily the shell but it’s a thin membrane. now you mightsay john do i need to remove that membrane for my coconut milk? well if you’re an analchef person that you know doesn't want their coconut milk to look kind of brown tinged, you'll wanna take it off. for me you know i don't wanna waste the time. i’ll throughit in there and you know i’ll be removing this later as i will be removing most of thefiber. so what we’re gonna do next is actually we’re gonna go ahead and take the top offthe blender and we’re gonna add this to the blender. now, very important to makessure there’s no large cell fragments while
you can grab the membrane you don’t wantany hard piece of shell cause that might mess up the blender or mess up the next step afterwe blend it. so i like to just break this up into small pieces to make it even for theblender to work. it is very easy to do with your hand. once we have that half in the blender, then we’re gonna go ahead and separate out the other half. so as you could see i got that side out. onceagain it makes a nice bowl and once again we’re just gonna go ahead and make surethere’s no major shell fragments on here. the membrane once again is fine. we’re gonnatear that up and put it in the blender. now you know one of the things with the coconutis to make a milk to need to add the water.
so many times i might like to use the waterin the coconut but many times i like to drink the water in the coconut because it’s sofull of electrolytes. and then i got the meat and i wan’t the meat to taste good. whileyou could just chomp down and eat the meat you know i’d prefer to blend it into a liquidstate and actually make more service for you. and that’s what the blender does. it basicallyhas the sharp blades in the vitamix basically grind up and fractionate the food into a smallerparticle size so that there’s more surface area so that you’ll get better digestion.so instead of using the coconut water what i like to do is add like a nice filtered waterhere. and we’re gonna add to one whole coconut meat add approximately 32 ounces of water.you can use a little bit less you can use
more like if you wanna make more of a creamcoconut cream you could add very minimal water or actually just use the coconut to extractthe fat out. i’m actually using the water to make more of a milk. now you can put morewater if you like more of a watery consistency. i found that 32 ounces per one coconut isabout the right balance so that i get the right amount of milk from my water. once wedo that we’re gonna go ahead and put the top on the vitamix. i’m using the vitamixturbo-blend vs. the vitamix turbo-blend vs is the blender, vitamix blender that i recommendto you. vitamix has many different models and most models are pretty much the same theyhave similar power they have a similar craft. the main difference is the accessories thatcome with it. so the reason why i like the
turbo-blend vs over the other vitamix modelsis number one the recipe book. so this is a raw vegan and vegetarian recipes. the standardrecipe book that comes with most vitamix’s is your standard american you know recipebook but if you keep doing what you’ve always been doing then you’ll get the same results.so you know if you eat a standard american diet and it’s not working for you and you’reoverweight and things aren't working you can’t continue to eat those same foods even if they'reprocessed in the vitamix. you wanna make dietary changes to get better and you know resultsthat you’re looking for. so you know i have been eating a plant based healthy diet forthe past 18 years, i’ve never been healthier. i know you guys could do it too and thatswhy i got this recipe book i mean this thing
folds out, it’ll actually sit up on yourcountertop. it has you know literally hundreds of recipes here that'll teach you how to eata plant based healthy diet. and even if you don't eat all plant based have one day a weekwhere you eat plants instead of other stuff and you know that alone is making an improvementin your diet. i always encourage you guys to improve whatever you’re doing each andevery day. so this book has a myriad of beverages juice dips and spreads sauce entrees sidesdesserts and even dressings and marinades that you can make. in addition this also comeswith, unlike any other vitamix, it comes with a hemp nut milk bag. and this is the littletool you will need to make the coconut milk or any other nut milk hemp milk almond milkcashew milk macadamia nut milk with the blender
and the nut milk bag without using the juicer. we’ll show you more about this in a secondbut let’s go ahead and blend this guy up. so we added the coconut meat and the waterthe next step is to blend. i always like to start the blender on low. this has a nicevariable speed. once this starts to get going well crank to high. now it’s highly important you have a highpowered blender. most blenders will not process this coconut meat like this. it'll like clogup and it’ll leave big fragments so its very imperative you have a powerful blenderto fractionate so it makes the best coconut milk. so once that’s running a little bityou can now stop the blender now as you can
see we have a nice mixture here of the coconutmeat and the water and you might say “john is that the coconut milk?â€. well this hasa lot of fiber and while you could drink it if you want a nice fibrous milk and let mego ahead and try that today. mhmm…it’s full of grit. this is not a good coconut milk, god. i don’t like it. so what we wanna do next is we wanna remove the fiber and we justwant the nice creamy milky texture without all the grit and the fiber. two things youcould do, number 1 you’re gonna take a standard bowl or i got a anchor hocking cup uh measuringcup here that’s glass, available at your local big box store. then you’re gonna takethe nut milk bag and don’t worry if you forget these instructions i’m telling youthey got a little insert that explains how
you use the nut milk bag that comes with thevitamix. you’re gonna then take the nut milk bag. you’re gonna just spread it overyour container here whether you’re using a bowl or a cup and the you’re gonna pourthe mixture into the nut milk bag. then what’s gonna happen is you’re gonna lift this upthe water or the milk will actually come through the holes and into your container and thenyou also may need to ring this out and what not and then you’re gonna be left with twothings. you’re gonna separate the fiber from the milk. so the milk’s gonna be here, the fiber’s gonna be left in here and then you need to clean the bag. and that’s theeasiest way to make the coconut milk. with the vitamix turbo-blend vs once againyou get the blender and the nut milk bag.
everything you need to make the nut milk besidesthe coconuts or the nuts or the purified water. now if you don’t wanna use the nut milkbag cause you know this kind of gets messy. you gotta kind of ring it out with your handsand you gotta clean the nut milk bag which you know fibers get stuck in here and i don’tlike it so much. you could do the easy way and that’s what i’m gonna show you guysand that’s by using the omega vrt juicer as the second step. now you guys could usethe omega vrt as the only step to make nut milk so when we took out the coconut meatand had the water we could put a piece of coconut in there and put some water down thespout but that’s not gonna work nearly as well as the way that i’m showing you guystoday. i’ll always want you guys to do it
the best you can and the best way is gonnaget you better results and if you do it the other way by taking chunks of coconuts puttingit in here with pouring the water at the same time is gonna be a real you know watery coconutmilk. it’s not going to be rich and thick because we haven't fully fractionated thecoconut up like we have in the vitamix with it’s really sharp blades. and i just wannamention that the vitamix of all the blenders i’ve tested to date has the sharpest bladesand gonna do the best job at cutting it instead of beating like other high power blendersmight. so next we’re gonna go ahead and turn the juicer on. we have this set up tojuice and i mean all we have to do is turn this machine on and now we’re just gonnasimply pour the mixture through the omega
vrt. and what i like is let i like to letit fill up to the spout to the top but not go into the little funnel here. and as youcould see only what we’re getting out is coconut milk on this side and slowly but surelywe’re getting some of the pulp out over on this side. now i mean the juicer that’swhat the juicer is designed to do. it’s designed to take a carrot and separate thepulp from the liquid. that’s what we’re doing here we’re just separating the coconutpulp from the coconut liquid or the coconut milk. in addition you may notice that i do havea little strainer here. now the omega vrt is notorious for making more pulp in the juicethan other juicers so i like to also just
use a secondary strainer to ensure i’m gettinga rich coconut milk without the pulp. and as you could see there’s not a whole lotof you know pulp coming out of the juicer but there is some. alright so check it outman you could now see the coconut fiber coming out of the juicer on this side and you knowthis does take some time. you’re not gonna be done in two minutes two seconds you knowyou're gonna have to take some time and wait. but let me tell you the wait is worth it becauseyou know if you’ve ever seen a nut milk bag before it gets quite messy. plus i thinkalso the omega vrt juicer besides making the coconut milk is quite beneficial to have inyour kitchen so that you can extract the nutrients, the liquid gold from vegetables. you knowit’s very easy to eat fruits and digest
the fruits and get the nutrition out of thefruits because of their soft texture but vegetables have a hard fibrous cell walls it’s reallyhard to digest it well especially if you’re not chewing each mouthful 200 times. i meanwhy do we feed babies baby food right, that’s in a mush? it’s because they don’t havethe teeth well you're supposed to be chewing each mouthful 200 times and when we couldextract it with the juicer, just the liquid because our bodies will absorb the nutrientsand only in a liquid state the little villi in our intestines you’re gonna get the mostand quickest nutrition punch ever. let’s go ahead and grab this fiber here.i’m gonna go ahead and let some of this stuff come out in my hand and show you guys.i mean this coconut these coconut shreds are
really dry. i can’t even squeeze it as hardas i can to get any moisture out. this stuff is really dry. so you know if you really wantedto you could actually take this and do baking with it still. it’s basically for the mostpart de-fatted coconut fiber. you could also actually dehydrate this and use this in differentrecipes. i personally just compost this. feed to it my bacteria in my compost. let’s goahead and add more of the liquid there. now it’s very important when using the omegavrt with this technique you do not use the pusher and in general when using the omegavrt to juice in i do not recommend the pusher. either you’re probably feeding the producein too fast if you are. in addition if you do have an omega vrt please check my othervideos on youtube for the best practices on
where i show exactly how to use the omegavrt to get the best results when juicing with it because you can’t just start stickingany old thing in there and it’s gonna juice to get the best results. you need to you knowdo and follow proper procedures to get the best results. alright so we’re gonna goahead and lift this up now cause it’s literally swimming in the milk. i think we got justa little bit more milk here to process. alright so that’s pretty much the rest of the milknow right into the omega vrt. as you could see it’s collected very littleum pulp coming out. the omega vrt does an exceptional job at doing this. now you knowmuch like many of you guys and ladies who might have many pairs of shoes i have manyjuicers in my kitchen that i get to select
from based on the specific task that i wannado. if i’m making coconut milk i always pick the omega vrt. it’s a juicer that doesit the best. if i’m juicing carrots and i want the highest extraction yield then i’lluse the greenstar elite. if i wanna be done very quickly i use a centrifugal ejectionjuicer because that’s done really fast but when i do do that you know i’m giving upyou know essentially 50% of some of the nutrients are sticking with the pulp because those machinesrun at a high speed and they’re not super efficient at breaking open the fiber cellsand getting all the nutrition out like some slow juicers are. so as you could see thejuicer’s pretty much slowed down to a crawl. not much liquid is coming anymore and as youcould see i have very little pulp in the basket.
i think a dropped a little pulp when i wasshowing you guys the pulp there but other than that there’s pretty much no pulp inthere. next i like to go ahead and take this over put it on this side, and as you couldsee i have the rich delicious coconut milk you know over 4 cups here. it’s totallyfiber free. mhmm. that’s the most delicious coconut milk i’ve ever tasted. now onceyou make the coconut milk this will store. i like to store it for no more than 3 to 4days in the fridge kept cold in a airtight glass sealed container filled up to the brim.and as you may notice i did not do any flavorings or additives to this. now when you buy coconutmilk almond milk or nut milk in the store they're often adding caragenin in and saltand flavoring and probably sugar and you know
i want you guys to eat as natural as possibleand when you have these machines this will allow you to process your own nuts or coconutsat home and once you make it then you can add sweeteners, whether you wanna add datesto make it sweet or honey to make it sweet. you know the ways i like to use the coconutmilk is i don’t eat cereal so i don’t add it to my cereal like you guys. i liketo use it in smoothies. i’ll actually fill up the blender with milk alone with a fewbananas strawberries and some blueberries and blend it up into a delicious rich smoothie.so i think that pretty much does it for today’s episode. so you know which appliance is bestfor making the coconut milk? by far it’s the blender. when you use the blender andthe juicer i think you get the best of both
worlds. i mean no matter what i want you guysto remember the more ways you could include the fresh fruits and vegetables and the coconutsin your diet, i believe the healthier you will be than eating the standard americanfrikkin processed foods and you know diets that are rich in animal products. i thinkplants for the future. so i hope you enjoyed this episode. once again my name is john kohlerwith discountjuicers.com. be sure to visit discountjuicers.com/youtube for special promotionaloffers for our youtube visitors.
